Description

As soon as you start this area you, will see Bertoxxulous give a pep-rally to his hag minions to defend the portals. Your job is to destroy the evil portals which are different from the normal portals you have been using. After destroying seven of the eight portals, enter the Arachna Caves to continue. Leaving the far exit of the Arachna Caves brings you to the portal you couldn’t reach earlier. When you destroy the last evil portal you will find the Shard of Disease. When you have the Shard of Disease, return to Firiona Vie for your next mission into the Plane of Valor.

It can be difficult to find and destroy all eight evil portals especially if you kill the guardians but forget to run up and destroy the portal itself. There are six portals along the walls of this area, one is in the center of the waterways, and one is on a raised area you can only get to via the Arachna Caves.

Hags are the most impressive enemy spellcasters and you normally find them in this area in pairs near evil portals with a spawner as support. They can cast Bolt of Shock, Lighting Storm, and Giant Growth, plus they can fly and their melee attacks have a stun chance. If they start flying they can’t attack you and you can’t melee with them, but you can still hit them with some spells and all regular ranged attacks. They count as undead, but the normal undead immunities do not apply… they can be poisoned and diseased. The best way to attack them is while you are moving. If you stand still they can hit you with their electrical attacks and while you should be able to take a number of their attacks, two hags attacking one player can be bad.

Spawners are slow moving and don’t have any attacks themselves but they do have lots of hitpoints and create unlimited numbers of flying slugs. Each spawner will create up to six slugs at one time and the slugs don’t drop anything or give experience when killed. Slugs have very few hitpoints (one hit should kill them) and a low damage attack that often misses due to your armor. However each slug is as fast as you and attacks quickly and often six will surround and kill you. So don’t try and melee the spawner when it has a mini army of slugs to defend it.

The best way to deal with the slugs is to kill the spawner. If you can kill a spawner quickly and before it can create a mini army, that is the best way to deal with it. Often that isn’t possible because it was busy creating slugs just off screen and you have to deal with it and six slugs. Use an area of attack spell (even a weak one) to kill slugs while using your better attacks to kill the spawner itself. If you don’t have a spell that damages everything in area, get six slugs to chase you and then make ranged attack runs on the spawner.

Most Efficient Route

Follow the right wall all the way around until just pass the 2nd save point. Destroy the portal you find there (which should leave 3 remaining). Go to the left wall on the other side of the bottleneck and keep it on your right as you work your way back down towards the start. After destroying six portals, go up the center of the area following where all the water joins up for the seventh evil portal. Go back to the 2nd save point and keep the back wall on your right past the seventh evil portal and exit to the Arachna Caves leaving one portal. Re-enter using the other exit found in the Arachna Caves. Destroy the portal and gate back to Firiona Vie to finish the plane.

Fastest Route

Same as above.
