Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.0 Is Out! Quick Guide for Returning Players: Revamped Skill Tree & Cyberware

Cyberpunk 2.0 Update is live! If you are a little bit confused, then, no — this is not DLC content. The update is available for all players with a copy, and it’s definitely worth hopping in for if you have been thinking about replaying the game.

We have an article on Update 2.0 that outlines all of the major changes, if you want to get a sense of the scope. Worthy of spotlight is the revamped Skill Tree, redesigned Cyberware system, and new vehicle combat — if your way of having fun time is blowing cars up and slicing some throats, you will have a lot more new ways of doing that under this massive content update.

Let’s go over a couple of things that you will encounter right away.

All Perks Reset! (On Old Saves)

Remember that if you hop into the game with an old character, all of your Perks will be refunded — you will have up to 80 Perk Points to deal with. Good news is, any Perk you pick can be immediately refunded with a press of a mouse wheel button. Bad news is, the system is completely revamped, so you will have 179 new Perks to choose from! (Check out our Character Perks Guide for a summary of each tree.)

Cyberware Update: Capacity Limit, Armor Stat

Note that your Cyberware interface will come with new slots, but also a new Cyberware Capacity limit — you will need to expand it with Perks (like Edgerunner and Renaissance Punk) and Cyberware Capacity shards. Also note that only your Cyberware will have armor as a stat now; your clothes now are only cosmetic — the best options for it will be your Skeleton and Integumentary System, as well as the License to Chrome (Level 2) perk.

You can see all of that information by hovering over the scale you will see on the left side of your Cyberware interface within the inventory.

Other Notable Changes

  • Note that Perks are no longer tied to Skills, but Skills are still in the game, and they still get leveled the old way — by performing skill-related activities. They will still award you Perk Points as well as extra bonuses, like more carrying capacity, a chance to apply Bleed, or extra damage with Arms Cyberware.
  • If you remember having a full stack of health items on your character, you might be surprised to see it reduced to single digits: these are now charges instead of items, and the low number is meant to represent new scarcity for consumables, which you can upgrade using new perks from the Tech tree.
  • There are now new mounted weapons on cars, and you will be able to shoot out of the window and hack into vehicles on the fly. Note that some of these options are tied behind perks — you will need the Gearhead Technical Ability Perk to be able to hack into cars (easy to unlock, thankfully), though the new ability to control them remotely might be well worth it.
  • If you played the game recently, you might note a change or two to your favorite weapon: it could be missing your old socketed items or be missing a slot for a specific attachment type (a scope, for example) entirely. Though, you might be pleased to see a much more helpful breakdown of stats on hover and gun types listed right away in the inventory.

There is quite a bit more beyond these elements, especially for more minor changes in the interface and general QoL. However, this should be enough to get you started!
