Cyberpunk 2077 Hotfix 1.06 Fixes Corrupted Save Issue

Despite it already being the holiday break for many, CD Projekt Red has released another hotfix for Cyberpunk 2077, just in time for Christmas. While it addresses a few other issues, the big news is that Hotfix 1.06 fixes the problem with save files over 8mb becoming corrupted and unusable. The patch notes from the latest hotfix also suggest that the problem was exclusive to PC.

Unfortunately, the hotfix doesn’t retroactively make corrupted save files retrievable; any save file that got over 8mb and became corrupted will remain that way. At least now PC players can loot and craft to their hearts content, free from the fear of their save file becoming bloated and unusable.

In addition to the fix for PC saves, an issue with the Maelstrom character Dum Dum going missing during a quest has been fixed, and there are also improvements to memory management and stability on consoles. You can read the full patch notes below:

Quests

  • Dum Dum will no longer go missing from Totentanz entrance during Second Conflict.

Console-specific

  • Improved memory management and stability, resulting in fewer crashes.

PC-specific

  • Removed the 8 MB save file size limit. Note: this won’t fix save files corrupted before the update.

However folk may feel about CDPR right now, this was an impressive turnaround time on fixing a serious issue. Perhaps it ended up being an easy fix, but it deserves a shout-out regardless.

This is far from the last patch promised by CDPR; there should still be two major patches in January and February of 2021, and with any luck those updates will iron out the major issues console players are having.
