Portrait of a Murder, the Latest Dead by Daylight Chapter, Is Out Now

Whether you love BHVR’s work or complain about it on Reddit, you can’t deny that they crank out new content with the best of them. Their latest effort, Portrait of a Murder, releases today: it includes a new Survivor, Jonah Vasquez and a new Killer, The Artist.

The new Survivor comes with a new Exhaustion perk, a noob-friendly perk that prevents failed skill checks, and another Boon perk (this one lets you recover faster from the Dying State, and even fully recover yourself). The fanbase is certain his boon perk will destroy the meta, but it’s unclear how powerful it will actually be in practice.

The new Killer’s power allows her to send Dire Crows after Survivors, while one of her Perks continues the work of the last chapter in modifying how totems work — her Hex: Pentimento lets her resurrect cleansed totems, which grow in power as she Rekindles more totems. She also has a perk that creates special hooks which regress the most completed generator once a Survivor is hooked on one, and another hook-reliant slowdown perk.

It’s great to see the developers continuing to experiment with new systems in Dead by Daylight — the game is over 5 years old now, and it hasn’t seen any fundamental changes in gameplay in all that time. Creating more interaction around totems is a great way to add new objectives and shake up the meta while keeping the fundamental aspects of the game intact.
