Background

You’ll trigger this task after completing the task Extract a Confession from the Deserter.

Walkthrough

While you’re talking to the deserter (#1) about the murder, you’ll learn that he had been spying on Klaasje and the hanged man for a long time. If you pass a “challenging” Reaction Speed check, then you’ll realize that not only had he been observing them through the scope of his rifle, he had also been sneaking into the Whirling-in-Rags and watching them through the peephole in the wall of Klaasje’s bedroom, which he’ll admit to carving out himself.

Eventually, you’ll work out that the deserter didn’t murder the hanged man because of anything the hanged man did. He killed him because he wanted to punish Klaasje for accommodating the enemy. This will complete the task and earn you 70 xp.
