Get the Whole Story from Titus Walkthrough

Background

There are two ways to trigger this task: by completing the task Doorgunner Megamix, or by refusing that task.

Walkthrough

After hearing conflicting stories from Titus and Klaasje, and with Titus annoyed, you’ll finally be in a position to learn who’s telling the truth, provided you can pass a “godly” Rhetoric check with Titus (#2). There are a few ways to make this check easier:

  • You can work with Evrart (#1), so he tells the Hardie Boys to cooperate with you.
  • You can work with Joyce (#4), so you learn about the tribunal and the local drug trafficking. Then you can warn Titus about the former and confront him about the latter.
  • You can pass a Visual Calculus check at the crime scene and count the footprints (#3). Then you can compare the footprints to the Hardie Boys and ask Ttitus about the eighth Hardie Boy.
  • You can pass a Volition check with Klaasje (#2) and realize that she might be lying to you.

There are other ways to get bonuses — and negatives — but they involve specific dialogue choices from your earlier conversations with Titus, which you can’t do anything about now. If you’re still stuck even with the bonuses listed above, then you can also research a pair of thoughts — Cleaning Out the Rooms and The Suicide of Kras Mazov — to gain +2 Rhetoric, and you can wear Medal “The Setting Sun” and White Polo Shirt for +1 Rhetoric each.

Note: If you fail the Rhetoric check, then you should choose the dialogue option about Kim, since that’s the only one that won’t cost you Health or Morale. If you bring up Garte and the “cock carousel,” then you can lose up to four Health.

However, passing the Rhetoric check isn’t enough. You’ll still have to make the right dialogue choices to get Titus talking. To that end, you should pick on Angus and avoid talking to Theo. This will result in Angus admitting that the hanged man was already dead when they got to him. If instead you talk to Theo, then you’ll end up getting shot, and you’ll have to load your game (“More Cops Dead”).

With the cat out of the bag, Titus will finally tell you what really happened on the night of the murder. You’ll learn that the hanged man got shot while he was with Klaasje, and that another, unnamed woman (aka the eighth Hardie Boy, aka the lady driver) orchestrated the hanging as a way to cover up the murder and keep Klaasje away from the police — which was necessary because Klaasje is hiding from somebody in the Moralintern and needs to lay low for a while.

When you return to Klaasje, she’ll apologize for the way she’s been treating you, and she’ll explain that since the RCM reports to the Moralintern, she had to keep herself off your radar, or else the people hunting for her would find her and kill her. This will complete the task and earn you 10 xp. Klaasje will then explain why she’s being hunted — industrial espionage — she’ll give you more details about the murder, and she’ll describe how the cover-up was organized, including telling you about Ruby, the other woman, whom she’ll call the “leader” and “organizer” of the Hardie Boys. However, Klaasje will claim that she doesn’t know where Ruby is now. This will trigger the task Make Titus Give Up Ruby’s Location.

After completing the conversation, you’ll get a “legendary” Drama check with Klaasje. If you pass it, then you’ll get a chance to confront her about some of the things she’s told you. You’ll learn that her real name is Katarzine Alasije. You’ll learn that she hid her passport in a buoy in Martinaise West. This will trigger the task Inspect Klaasje’s Buoy. And you’ll decide that she might have committed the murder. This will allow you to arrest her. See the task Arrest Klaasje for what this would mean.
