The Troll’s Bounty – Divinity: Original Sin Quest

This is a quest available in the Luculla Forest region. You’ll receive this quest from Brandon in Silverglen (#1), provided you agree to hear about his “retirement plan.” This guide goes over each step for completion and any rewards that can be earned.

Walkthrough

Brandon will tell you that tenebrium is very valuable, and that Gungir the Troll King has a bunch of it in his cave (#2). The only problem is that there doesn’t appear to be any way to enter the cave, so Brandon will encourage you to search for a solution, and he’ll give you a Blood Stone Cage so you can handle tenebrium without catching the Rot.

To complete the quest, you’ll just need to deliver ten samples of Tenebrium Ore to Brandon. You’re not required to get them from the Troll King’s Cave. There are two other places where it’s much easier to mine it or steal it — the Luculla Mines (#3) and Sacred Stone (#4) — and you’ll probably gain access to them well before you learn how to infiltrate the Troll King’s Cave.

Note: Only the character with the Blood Stone Cage will be protected from the Rot, so that’s the character you should use when mining or picking up the ore.

When you return to Brandon after acquiring the ore, you’ll have to decide whether you really want to give it to him or not. This will cause you to become more Spiritual (immunity to fear) or Materialistic (loremaster +1). If you decide to keep the ore for yourself, then Brandon will leave in a huff. If you give Brandon the ore, then he’ll take all of it (even if you have more than ten samples), but he’ll teach you the Tenebrium skill, which will prevent you from catching the Rot, and he’ll give you a Mining Office’s Letter, which you’ll need for the quest The Naked Truth. In other words, giving the Tenebrium Ore to Brandon is much better than keeping it, especially since the ore isn’t wildly difficult to find. But regardless of the choice you make, you’ll earn 6000 xp for completing the quest.

Note: If you keep the ore for yourself, then you can still give the Tenebrium skill to one of your characters by using the How to Handle Tenebrium skillbook found in Lady Attenberah’s shop in Sacred Stone.
