This page contains walkthroughs for all of the minor quests in Act III. Please use the “Contents” tool to navigate through these many quests.

A Rivaini Talisman

Background

You’ll trigger this quest when you pick up a Rivaini Talisman from a storage container in the Disused Passage in Act III. The storage container will only appear if Isabela is still your companion.

Walkthrough

When you give the talisman to Isabela in the Hanged Man tavern, it will transform into a Rivaini Fertility Talisman, and Isabela will put it on. If you say “I knew what it was” or “I don’t see anything wrong,” then you’ll gain rivalry points with Isabela. If you say “Oops, now I see,” then you’ll gain friendship points. You’ll also receive 250 xp at the end of the quest.

A Small Problem

Background

You’ll receive this quest immediately after completing the quest On the Loose in Act III.

Walkthrough

When you talk to Varric in the Hanged Man tavern, he’ll tell you that he recently sold Bartrand’s estate… but that the place seems to be haunted and needs to be exorcised. If you offer to help Varric out, then you’ll gain friendship points with him. Otherwise, you’ll gain rivalry points. Either way, you’ll receive the quest Haunted.

A Talking To

Background

You’ll automatically receive this quest at the start of Act III.

Walkthrough

For this quest you’ll need to talk with Merrill in her home in Lowtown. Merrill will mention that she misses the elves of her clan — even Keeper Marethari — but it won’t make any difference how you respond. You won’t receive any xp or friendship / rivalry points for completing this quest.

Note: If you’re in a romance with Merrill, then you might need to complete the quest The New Place before completing this quest.

An Anniversary

Background

You’ll receive this quest during Act III, provided that you can gain a perfect friendship or rivalry rating with Varric.

Walkthrough

When you talk to Varric in the Hanged Man tavern, he’ll mention that it’s been six years since he met you, and he’ll offer up a toast to whatever comes next. You won’t receive any xp for completing this quest.

Beware of Dog

Background

You’ll receive this quest the first time you enter the bedroom of your Hightown estate during Act III, provided that you have the Black Emporium DLC.

Walkthrough

Inside your bedroom, you’ll discover that your mabari war hound has a thief trapped inside the wardrobe. No matter what you say, the thief will end up leaving or dying, and you won’t receive a reward. There aren’t any ramifications for this quest.

Blade of Mercy

Background

You’ll trigger this quest when you pick up the Blade of Mercy from a chest during the quest Best Served Cold.

Walkthrough

When you offer the blade to Fenris in his mansion in Hightown, one of two things will happen:

  • If you say “Keep the blade,” and if you’re a friend, then Fenris will equip the Fenris-specific version of the Blade of Mercy, and you’ll gain friendship points with him. If you’re a rival, then Fenris will refuse the blade, causing the neutral version of the Blade of Mercy to appear in your inventory, and you’ll gain rivalry points.

  • If you say “I’ll keep the blade,” then the neutral version of the Blade of Mercy will appear in your inventory, and you’ll gain friendship points with Fenris if you’re a friend, and rivalry points if you’re a rival.

Regardless, you’ll receive 250 xp for completing the quest.

Note: The neutral version of the Blade of Mercy is slightly better than the Fenris-specific version.

Champions and Captains

Background

You’ll automatically receive this quest at the start of Act III.

Walkthrough

When you talk to Aveline in her office in the Viscount’s Keep, you’ll get a chance to catch up with her, and you’ll learn, among other things, that Aveline married Donnic, and that the two of them spent their honeymoon in Orlais. There isn’t any way to gain friendship or rivalry points with Aveline during the conversation, and you won’t receive any xp for completing the quest.

Check on Anders

Background

You’ll automatically receive this quest at the start of Act III.

Walkthrough

When you meet with Anders in his clinic in Darktown (or in your estate in Hightown, if you’re in a romance with him and invited him to live with you), he’ll talk about — what else? — the conflict between mages and templars. At the end of the conversation, if you say “Maybe it’s for the best,” then you’ll gain friendship points with Anders. Otherwise, if you say “Mages are dangerous,” then you’ll gain rivalry points. You won’t receive any xp for completing this quest.

Closure

Background

You’ll automatically receive this quest at the end of the quest Haunted.

Walkthrough

When you talk to Varric in the Hanged Man tavern, one of two things will happen:

  • If you gave the shard to Sandal at the end of the quest Haunted, then Varric will apologize for the way he acted at Bartrand’s estate.

  • Otherwise, if you gave the shard to Varric, then Varric will tell you that he’ll be careful with it, and you’ll gain friendship or rivalry points with him (depending on if you’re friends or rivals with him).

Regardless, you won’t receive any reward for completing the quest, although Varric will buy you a drink.

Herbalist’s Tasks (Act III)

Background

You’ll trigger this quest when you loot the High Dragon Fire Gland from the high dragon during the quest Mine Massacre.

Walkthrough

When you give the High Dragon Fire Gland to Solivitus in the Gallows Courtyard, he’ll use it to craft Urzara’s Tooth for you, and you’ll also earn 400 xp.

Isabela’s Regret

Background

You’ll automatically receive this quest at the start of Act III, provided that Isabela is still one of your companions.

Walkthrough

When you meet with Isabela in the Hanged Man tavern, you’ll convince her to rejoin the world. If you say “You’re still my friend,” then you’ll gain friendship points with her. If you say “No, you’re not,” then you’ll gain rivalry points with her. You won’t gain any xp for completing this quest.

Note: You’ll need to complete this quest to use Isabela as a companion again.

Kind of Want

Background

You’ll trigger this quest once you’ve killed enough Followers of She (usually four to six groups of them) in Lowtown at night.

Walkthrough

When you trigger the quest, you’ll learn that the Followers of She have a base in the southwestern part of Lowtown. Inside, you’ll encounter a lot of Followers, including their leader, a desire demon named Hanker. Defeating these enemies will complete the quest and earn you Lord Bearing’s Wall and Carta’s Left-Hand, both of which can be found on Hanker’s corpse. Additionally, if you visit A Friend in the Hanged Man tavern (at night), then you’ll also receive 2 sovereigns and 500 xp.

Note: If you defeat all three sets of thugs in this act, then you’ll receive a bonus of 5 sovereigns, a Woodsman’s Ire, and 800 xp. Sometimes the game can be buggy and award you this bonus twice.

King Alistair

Background

If Alistair became king in Origins, then you’ll receive this quest in Act III after completing the quest On the Loose.

Walkthrough

When you enter the Viscount’s Keep, you’ll witness Knight-Commander Meredith and King Alistair having an argument about mages. Afterwards, Alistair will warn you that trouble is brewing in Orlais, and he’ll ask you to protect Kirkwall. If you offer yourself up as the new viscount, then you’ll gain friendship points with Varric. You won’t receive any xp for completing this quest.

Memento of the Dalish

Background

You’ll trigger this quest when you pick up a Sylvanwood Ring, either from the thief leader’s corpse on Sundermount, or from a pile of bones in the Mountain Cave during the quest A Murder of Crows. Only the first ring you pick up will trigger this quest. The second one won’t do anything.

Walkthrough

When you give the ring to Merrill in her home in Lowtown (or your estate in Hightown, if you’re in a romance with her), she’ll tell you the story of Fen’Harel, the Dread Wolf. If you’re friends with Merrill, then this conversation will earn you friendship points with her. Otherwise you’ll earn rivalry points. You’ll also receive the non-gift version of the Sylvanwood Ring, which only Merrill will be able to use. You won’t receive any xp for completing this quest.

Merrill, Friend or Foe

Background

You’ll trigger this quest once you’ve maxed friendship or rivalry points with Merrill.

Walkthrough

When you talk to Merrill in her home in Lowtown, she’ll mourn the loss of the elves in her clan, and she’ll possibly destroy the eluvian (if you’re a rival) or vow to keep working on it (if you’re a friend). You won’t receive any xp for completing this quest.

Background

You’ll trigger this quest once you’ve maxed friendship or rivalry points with Anders, provided that you helped him sneak into the Chantry during the quest Justice.

Walkthrough

When you talk to Anders in his clinic in Darktown, one of two things will happen. If you’re a friend, then he’ll tell you how much he respects you, and he’ll basically start saying his goodbyes. If you’re a rival, then you’ll try to convince Anders to change his ways, but no matter what you say, Justice will make an appearance and demand that you leave. You shouldn’t receive any xp for completing this quest, but it’s possible you’ll receive the same reward as for completing the quest Justice (1200 xp and a Renegade’s Coat).

If you’re a rival, then you’ll be able to tell him “You should leave.” If you do, then Fenris will disappear from the game. Otherwise, the quest won’t have any impact on the game, and you won’t receive any xp for completing it.
