Dragon Age: Origins Reviews

Yet another large wave of Dragon Age: Origins reviews has reached the web, most of which fall into the enthusiastic category.

VGChartz gives it a 9.2/10:

Dragon Age: Origins is an excellent RPG, but one that was clearly designed with a specific platform in mind, and thus suffers on the platforms it was ported to. The brilliant and challenging gameplay on PC will satiate the expectations of even the most avid PC RPG gamers, but the console versions represent a significantly reduced experience all around. Nevertheless, with the excellent narrative and great characters, this is a game worth playing no matter where you buy it.

Tiscali gives it a 9/10:

For fans of fantasy RPGs cooked almost to perfection, step right up and ring fence a few weekends – this dragon’s den is one you’ll be glad to be invited to.

Gaming Age gives it an “A-“:

Overall Dragon Age: Origins is fantastic, and is a must play for any fan of the genre. Doubly so since it readily promotes multiple play throughs. It’s the player that controls the game more than the story , so everyone can look forward to spending endless hours in a wonderfully fleshed out fantasy realm.

Console Monster gives it a 96%:

Reading this review you might have realised that my praises are many, and faults few. That’s simply because the game has far surpassed my expectations and has done, and will continue to, provide countless hours (100+) of enjoyment. That said, I am an RPG gamer at heart and have grown up enjoying most RPGs that are praised as the better video games of all time. The problem with Dragon Age being on console is the expectation many will have for a game similar to Fable, which Dragon Age certainly is not. As an RTS, adventure and racing game appeals to particular tastes, so does that of the old-school CRPG. If you have experienced the enjoyment from past games of this type then dive on in as Dragon Age is a blast. Those stepping into the pool for the first time be weary, you wouldn’t want to drop in the deep end. That being said, Dragon Age is the perfect first step for newcomers; come on in.

TheSixthAxis gives it a 9/10:

Dragon Age: Origins is a triumph of a game. It has depth and scale which will keep you interested for many, many hours. There are slight issues that I could pick at but in all honesty the intricate game-play and immense storyline immersion counteract any minor niggles I may have to the point where they are almost completely forgotten. If you don’t like RPGs or dungeon crawlers then you will probably find Dragon Age completely baffling but if you are a fan of the genre then it is simply unmissable. Every gamer who takes their hobby past yearly sports iterations or online First Person Shooters should experience this game. It is a definite contender for Game of the Year 2009 which I will almost certainly still be playing well into 2010.

GameCritics gives it an 8.0/10:

Despite my qualms about the combat engine, graphics and the amount of minor bugs on display, it’s a testament to BioWare’s craft that Dragon Age: Origins is as intensely addicting and as ultimately satisfying as it is. This sprawling, massive adventure easily carves itself a spot at the top of the RPG genre thanks to the quality of the role-playing itself, and will be doubly appreciated by those who have an affinity for the fantasy-medieval theme or Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings. For RPG fans who want something to sink their teeth into, this one’s an absolute no-brainer.

Go! Gaming Giant gives it a 9/10:

I very much enjoyed my time with this game. My love for mythology and passion for RPGs fueled my need to keep playing this game for an ungodly amount of time, and I barely took a chunk out the game. If there’s one thing you have to understand, it’s the fact that this game is massive. With a main quest line that clocks in over 60 hours and more than 100 hours of additional side quests and such, you have quite a good amount of time to truly complete this game. If you want something that will take a good, long time to finish, or even something to hold you off until Mass Effect 2 rolls around, check this game out. It’s most certainly worth it.

And The Escapist doesn’t offer any score for the PC version:

Overall, Dragon Age: Origins does feel like a different game on the PC. As many have said, the game’s pedigree begins with classic RPGs like Baldur’s Gate and it follows that DAO would find its home on the PC. If you have a decent enough system to handle the graphics, and if you’re reading this you probably do, then it only makes sense to play DAO on what I consider its native platform, the PC.
