Deeps of Gruldur (Level 1) – Drakensang: The Dark Eye Location

This guide is an overview of a certain area from Chapter 9 in Drakensang: The Dark Eye. In it, you’ll find a map, legend, and overview of the points of interest.

Overview

When you go through the portal to arrive in the Deeps of Gruldur (#1), you’ll trigger the quest “The Deeps of Gruldur.” The portal that you used to arrive in the Deeps won’t be functioning anymore, and so the first thing you’ll need to do in the quest is figure out a way to pass through the cyclopean doors (#3, #4, Exit A), so you can descend deeper into the ruins. Each door requires a Cyclopian Artifact.

You’ll find the first artifact on the nearby dwarven corpse (#2). Picking it up will net you 50 experience points, and then when you approach the right cyclopean door (#4), it will open and you’ll receive another 50 experience points. The door will also give you a clue about the Adamantine Heart: “The Black Heart of Adamantine lies well-hidden behind the Fire Falls of Algormosh.”

You’ll find the second artifact in the caves to the north (#9). When you approach it, you’ll get attacked by three fire spirits. Then when you pick up the artifact, you’ll receive 50 experience points, and when you approach the next cyclopean door (#3), it will open and you’ll receive another 50 experience points. The door will also give you another clue: “We Cyclopes protect the Heart from the greedy Grolms and the eyes of evil Dragons.”

You’ll find the third artifact in a room to the east (#12). It’ll be guarded by four fire spirits, and you’ll probably need some fire protection (or a few healing potions) to defeat them. You’ll receive 50 experience points when you pick up the artifact, and then you’ll receive 100 experience points when you open its cyclopean door (Exit A). You’ll also get another clue: “Only he who wears the Helm of Fire can pass safely through the mountain’s searing flames.”


1 – Portal

This is where you’ll start out in the chapter. The portal won’t be operational when you arrive, so you won’t be able to return to Murolosh right away. You’ll have to find the Helm of Fire (on Level 4) first.


2 – Dwarven Corpse

On the corpse you’ll find a Cyclopian Artifact. You’ll need this artifact to open the cyclopean door to the north (#4).

Also, when you approach the corpse, a dwarven ghost will appear and start talking to you. It will tell you that it doesn’t remember much about itself, except that it lost an amulet — its “most precious possession” — which was a gift from its lover. If you agree to look for the amulet, then you’ll trigger the quest “The Dwarven Ghost.”

You’ll find the Dwarven Amulet on Level 4, in a treasure chest along with some other items. When you return the amulet to the corpse of the dwarf, you’ll gain 50 experience points, and the dwarf will finally find peace.

You’ll find the artifact for this door in the caves to the north (#9).

You’ll find the artifact for this door on the dwarven corpse (#2).


5 – Workshop

You’ll find an anvil, a workbench, and a laboratory here.


6 – Fissured Wall

This wall will start out closed, and you’ll have to circle around to the eastern side (by going through the cyclopean door at #3) to open it.


7 – Strange Apparitions

At these spots you’ll see ghosts of dwarves and grolms. The first time you witness such a scene, you’ll trigger the quest “Strange Apparitions.” The second time, you’ll gain 20 experience points. You won’t need to do anything for this quest, other than watch the scenes as you progress through the ruins.


8 – Treasure Chest

Inside this treasure chest you’ll find 56 ducats and an Eight-Shard Amulet of Protection.


9 – Cyclopian Artifact

You’ll need this artifact to open a cyclopean door (#3). When you approach the artifact you’ll get attacked by three fire spirits.

Behind this fake wall you’ll find a chest containing potions and traps.


12 – Cyclopian Artifact

You’ll need this artifact to open a cyclopean door (Exit A). You’ll have to defeat four fire spirits to claim the artifact.
