Quest Notes

This quest is long and wide-encompassing. You’ll find information on the first part of the quest on a separate page.

At various points in the sewers you’ll come upon debris or locked gates that you cannot pass. These barriers are shown with a black box on the map.

Walkthrough

Near the entrance to the sewers you’ll come upon Jessica’s corpse (#2), sprawled out inside a circle of candles, and so the quest will quickly change from a rescue to a pursuit, as you try to track down the cultists who killed her. You’ll receive 20 experience points when you reach the corpse, and you’ll find a List of Victims inside of it. The list will include Old Eelko, the Dragon, Jessica, and Archivist Loisane, but not Ardo, and so his murder will continue to look out of place.

Every so often, you’ll catch a glimpse of the cultists as they stay ahead of you, but otherwise you won’t find much in the sewers other than some barrels to break and some wolf rats to kill. But eventually you’ll escape the sewers (via Exit A) and find yourself in a town house.

Inside the town house you’ll discover Finn of Ferdok and Kastan Gamblack, plus a few of their closest cultist friends, preparing to kill Archivist Loisane (#6). You’ll receive 30 experience points when you first arrive at the scene, and then 110 experience points more when you chase Finn up the stairs and defeat him on the upper floor (#7). Gamblack will escape during the confusion.

However, right after Finn dies — before you can even loot the corpse — Grand Inquisitor Da Vanya will show up, and he’ll take you off the case. “How can light and truth be brought to bear on these crimes if you slay everyone connected to them?” He’ll then kick you out of the main part of the town house, and you’ll find yourself in the foyer (#9).

Inside the foyer you’ll meet up with Barla Borkensmith. When you talk to her, she’ll escort you to the ducal residence in the Ducal Citadel. There you’ll meet Duke Growin and Regent Dariana. Growin will congratulate you on your success in investigating the murders, and he’ll reward you with 50 ducats, a Medal of the City of Ferdok, and Ardo’s residence in Praios Square. You’ll also receive 20 experience points.

Then Dariana will talk to you, and after hearing about the oddities involved in Ardo’s murder, she’ll encourage you to continue investigating it. To that end, she’ll suggest that you look into the two trading companies in the harbor, to see if they’re up to anything that might have gotten Ardo killed. This will trigger the quest Investigations at the Harbor.
