Background

In Dungeon Lords there are four guilds — the Celestial Order, the Guild of Fighters, the Guild of Mages, and the Guild of Mystery — plus two two sub-guilds — the Eastern Houses and the Sisterhood. You can belong to two guilds, which correspond to your two core classes, and two sub-guilds. The guilds determine which classes you can add to your character. For more information on these classes, please refer to the MMXII Classes page.

Each guild will give you a pair of quests. You’ll receive an initiation quest when you join, and then you’ll receive a second quest after you’ve added a second tier class from the guild. All of these quests for the guilds are described below.

The Celestial Order (Adepts)

The Celestial Order has two guildmasters: Seer Paulus in the Temple of the Circene in Fargrove (#1) and Orlan Drey in the Temple of the Empyrean in Arindale (#2). Only Seer Paulus will give you the initiation quest, but either guildmaster can give you the second quest.

Initiation Quest. For this quest you’ll be given a Candle of Stars, and you’ll be asked to place it on the Shrine of Celestial Light (#4), which is located to the northwest of Fargrove. Once you’ve reached the shrine, you’ll need to climb up the stairs to the upper level and then activate the altar that you’ll find there. That will place the candle on top of it. Afterwards, when you return to the Celestial Order, you’ll get to pick a heraldry bonus, your Adept class will become active (if it wasn’t already), and you’ll be allowed to add a second tier guild class to your character.

Second Quest. For this quest you’ll be given three Crystals of Clarity, and you’ll be asked to place them on three Shrines of Power (#5). This quest will work just like the initiation quest, except with three shrines to visit instead of just one. After completing the task, when you return to the Celestial Order, you’ll be rewarded with a heraldry bonus plus a Sceptre of Storms, and you’ll be allowed to add a third tier guild class to your character.

The Guild of Fighters (Fighters)

The Guild of Fighters has two guildmasters: Grunmeir at the Arms of Argus Armory in Fargrove (#1) and Sir Nil-Galand at the Hall of Weaponry in Arindale (#2). Only Grunmeir will give you the initiation quest, but either guildmaster can give you the second quest.

Initiation Quest. For this quest you’ll need to deliver a Sword of Striking to Sir Nil-Galand at the Hall of Weaponry in Arindale (#2). You won’t get to keep the sword at the end, so if it’s a useful weapon for you, then you might want to hang onto it for a while before completing the quest. When you deliver the sword, you’ll gain a heraldry bonus, your Fighter class will become active (if it wasn’t already), and you’ll be allowed to add a second tier guild class to your character.

Second Quest. For this quest you’ll need to track down Sir Falen, a knight who was captured by the demigoth slaver Minas Taw, and rescue him from his predicament. You’ll find Sir Falen and Minas Taw together in a camp in the Forbidden Lands (#6). After killing Minas Taw, you’ll just need to talk to Sir Falen to complete the quest. He’ll give you a Barbtongue Runeblade, and you’ll also receive 10,000 experience and a point of honor. Finally, when you return to the Guild of Fighters, you’ll receive a heraldry bonus, and you’ll be allowed to add a third tier guild class to your character.

The Guild of Mages (Mages)

The Guild of Mages has two guildmasters: Aleister at the Arcane Emporium in Fargrove (#1) and Rianne at her shop in the Devil’s Marsh (#7). Only Aleister will give you the initiation quest, but either guildmaster can give you the second quest.

Initiation Quest. For this quest you’ll need to deliver the Staff of Scaris to Rianne in the Devil’s Marsh (#7), which is located to the north of Fargrove. You’ll find Rianne in her shop, which is shown on the world map. When you make the delivery, Rianne will reward you with a heraldry bonus, your Mage class will become active (if it wasn’t already), and you’ll be allowed to add a second tier guild class to your character.

Second Quest. For this quest you’ll need to travel to Skuldoon (#3) and help out Feros Duul. When you reach Duul (in his shop on the western side of town), he’ll tell you that a curse has been placed on him by a rival shaman named Laerok Maa, and he’ll ask you to track down Maa in the Forbidden Lands and bring back the idol he’s carrying. You’ll find Maa in front of a shack that looks just like Duul’s (#8). Maa will start out with some skeletons surrounding him, and he’ll summon more skeletons as he fights, but otherwise he’s not too tough.

When Maa dies, he’ll drop an Idol of Death, plus probably a couple of spell books. Then when you return to Duul, he’ll reward you with the level 8 nether spell “Summon Fiend,” and you’ll also receive 10,000 experience and a point of honor. Finally, when you return to the Guild of Mages, you’ll receive a heraldry bonus plus gain the ability to add a third tier guild class to your character.

The Guild of Mystery (Rogues)

The Guild of Mystery has two guildmasters: Deliah in her shop in the Slums District of Fargrove (#1) and Mundruff in Vartugg’s Fortress in Skuldoon (#3). Only Deliah will give you the initiation quests, but either guildmaster can give you the second quest.

Pre-Initiation Quest. When you first meet Deliah in her shop (#1), she’ll give you a quest to see if you’re worthy of the guild. She’ll ask you to visit Custard Mansion, which is located nearby in the Slums District, and locate the Treasure Map rumored to be inside. Any character can complete this quest. It won’t force you to join the guild. See the Custard Mansion walkthrough for more information.

Initiation Quest. For this quest you’ll need to deliver the Treasure Map to Vartugg’s lieutenant Mundruff, who can be found in Vartugg’s Fortress in Skuldoon (#3). The trip to Skuldoon can be difficult for low-level characters, so you might need to wait a bit before you make the delivery. But when do you hand over the map, you’ll get to select a heraldry bonus, your Rogue class will become active (if it wasn’t already), and you’ll be allowed to add a second tier guild class to your character.

Second Quest. For this quest you’ll learn that Sleth Silverbane has been skimming from the guild, and so you’ll be asked to track him down, kill him, and recover a painting called Hanging of Brae Witches. You’ll find Sleth in the Forbidden Lands (#9). He’ll be by himself, and he’ll only use melee attacks, and so he shouldn’t be too tough to kill. When Sleth dies, he’ll drop Sleth’s Safehouse Key, a Golden War Spear, and more.

You’ll discover Sleth’s Safehouse located a little ways to the south (#9a). Inside you’ll find the stolen painting plus two level 9 chests. One of the chests will always drop Leather Pro Magic and a Headhunter Charm. The other will always drop a Night Shuriken. When you return the painting to the Guild of Mystery, you’ll earn a heraldry bonus, and you’ll gain the ability to add a third tier guild class to your character.

The Eastern Houses

The Eastern Houses have two guildmasters: Master Ahn-Po in the House of the Dragon in Fargrove (#1) and Yoshi Tamaka in the House of the Tiger in Arindale (#2).

House of the Dragon Quest. For this quest you’ll need to steal a Dragon Egg from the fire drake breeding grounds (#10) and deliver it to the House of the Tiger in Arindale (#2). In the original versions of the game, fire drakes were nasty, and your best bet was to run into the breeding grounds, grab an egg, and then run back out. But in MMXII, the drakes are fire-breathing pushovers, and you should be able to wipe them all out (and probably advance multiple levels) while fetching one of their eggs. You’ll find the eggs in the nests at the southern edge of the zone.

When you hand over a Dragon Egg to the House of the Tiger, you’ll earn a heraldry bonus, and you’ll gain the ability to add second tier Eastern classes to your character.

House of the Tiger Quest. For this quest you’ll need to help House Misume regain its standing in the Elven Nation. This is a long and involved quest, and it encompasses most of the areas in the Elven Lands. But, in short, you’ll have to talk to Narako Misume at the Arindale Inn, then talk to Elvithra Malvolin at her apothecary shop, then go to the House of Lords and complete the Trial of the Ancient Elders, and then finally find the Argalia of Eryldorn in Ulm. For more information on this quest, please refer to the walkthrough pages for Arindale, the Trial of the Ancient Elders, and Ulm.

After completing the quest, when you return to the House of the Tiger, you’ll earn a heraldry bonus. You’ll need to complete this quest before you can add a third tier Eastern class to your character.

Dragon and Tiger Quest. For this quest you’ll need to protect Sensei Yamamatsu from a trap laid for him by the bounty hunter Yagu Matasai. You’ll find the pair in battle when you come to them on the western side of the Forbidden Lands (#11), but unlike some similar encounters in the game, Yamamatsu can be killed, so you’ll have to jump in quickly. But be careful! Your attacks can damage Yamamatsu as well as Matasai, so you won’t be able to use area spells, and even ranged attacks can be a problem. So wade in with your best melee weapon and kill Matasai before he can kill Yamamatsu.

After the battle, if you talk to Yamamatsu, then he’ll thank you and reward you with “The Master” heraldry bonus. You’ll also receive 10,000 experience and a point of honor. Then when you return to one of the Eastern Houses, you’ll receive a Gnarled Runestaff, and you’ll also gain the ability to add a third tier Eastern class to your character.

The Sisterhood

The Sisterhood has two guildmasters: Lady Chana (aka Sister Dhara) in the apothecary shop in Fargrove (#1) and Elvithra in the apothecary shop in Arindale (#2). Only female characters will learn about the Sisterhood and be allowed to join.

Pre-Initiation Encounter. North of the Temple of the Circene in Fargrove (#1), you’ll discover a woman named Lady Loriea being attacked by goblins. After ending the threat, if you’re male, then Loriea will just thank you for your help, but if you’re female, then she’ll tell you about the secret society of women that she belongs to — the Sisterhood — and she’ll recommend that you to speak to Sister Dhara in the apothecary if you wish to join as well. When you visit the apothecary, you’ll quickly learn that the owner Lady Chana is also known as Lady Dhara, and she’ll give you the initiation quest.

Note: If you don’t talk to Lady Loriea right after the battle, then she’ll wander off, and you’ll never learn about the Sisterhood.

Initiation Quest. For this quest, you’ll need to deliver Sister Dhara’s Package (a letter) to Elvithra in her apothecary in Arindale (#2). When you do, you’ll earn a heraldry bonus, and you’ll gain the ability to add a second tier Sisterhood class to your character.

Second Quest. For this quest you’ll need to rescue Sister Talya from her brutal keeper Kaugris in the Forbidden Lands. You’ll find the pair together at a shack (#12) almost directly west from the western exit from Skuldoon (#3). Kaugris is a standard melee fighter, and it’s easiest to kill him using melee attacks.

After defeating Kaugris, when you talk to Talya, she’ll reward you with Bracers of Power, 10000 experience, and a point of honor. Then when you return to the Sisterhood, you’ll earn “The Angel” heraldry bonus, and you’ll gain the ability to add a third tier Sisterhood class to your character.
