Background

Lazar Bassili wants to reopen the old Heroes’ Crypt, so that pilgrims and commerce will return to the valley. Unfortunately, the Crypt has been sealed for almost thirty years.

Walkthrough

You’ll receive this quest from Lazar Bassili the first time you exit the Legion Chapterhouse (on the Pilgrims’ Road side) after accepting the quest On the Road. If you’ve already completed the quest Gunderic Manor, then you’ll start off with the third objective.

Search Gunderic Manor

To open the Heroes’ Crypt, you’ll need the signet rings of Hugh Montbarron and Stephan Gunderic. You found Montbarron’s signet ring during the quest Into the Mournweald. You’ll find Gunderic’s signet ring during the quest Gunderic Manor.

Talk to Lazar

After acquiring Gunderic’s signet ring, you’ll need to talk to Lazar again. You’ll find him in the middle of Lower Raven’s Rill, near Petru’s shop. Lazar will send you off to the crypt, which is located south of the Legion Chapterhouse.

Open the Crypt

To open the crypt, you’ll just need to use the signet rings on the statues at the entrance (#1). While you’re there, you’ll meet Maximilien, who will give you the quest Relics of Another Age.

Find the Ghost That Haunts the Crypt

Inside the crypt, you’ll hear a voice coming from somewhere below you. To reach it, you’ll have to fight your way through lots of skeletons, including some skeleton champions. Interestingly, the skeleton champions will re-spawn if you load your game, just like regular enemies.

Eventually, you’ll make your way down to the loot-filled Hall of Heroes (#9), and then just past it you’ll encounter Drakomir (#10).

Defeat Drakomir

Drakomir is a tough melee boss who will summon skeletons every so often. If possible, try to stay far away from him and hit him with ranged attacks. If you have to use melee attacks against Drakomir, then be prepared to do a lot dodging, and also be prepared to run away from him whenever you need to regenerate your health. When Drakomir dies, he’ll drop the greatsword Foecleaver.

Exit the Crypt

With Drakomir (#10) defeated, no more skeletons will spawn in the crypt, and so you should have an easy time making your way out. When you reach the exit (#1), you’ll find Lazar waiting for you, and he’ll reward you with 2158 xp and a unique item: Captain’s Shoulders for Lucas, Collegium Alumni Circlet for Reinhart, Mastercrafted Pistol for Katarina, or Trespasser’s Bane for Anjali. Then Lazar will disappear and you won’t see him again.
