The Grand Chapterhouse – Dungeon Siege III Main Quest

This guide provides a walkthrough for a main quest in part 2 of Dungeon Siege III. Along with the walkthrough is a map and legend, which provides additional information.

Background

The former headquarters of the Legion has been abandoned for thirty years. If you can reclaim the Grand Chapterhouse in Stonebridge, the people of Ehb will know the Legion has returned.

Walkthrough

You’ll receive this quest when you enter Stonebridge City for the first time. You’ll find the Grand Chapterhouse in the southwestern part of the city.

Reopen the Chapterhouse

You’ll discover that the chapterhouse has long been abandoned, with bodies and debris all over — except on Level 2, where you’ll be attacked by eternal guardians. When you “kill” one of these guardians, it will stay down for a few seconds, but then it will get right back up and attack you again. You won’t receive any xp for these battles, so try to avoid fighting the guardians as much as possible.

Down on Level 2 (#3), you’ll find a scroll. When you examine the scroll, the guardians in the room will disappear, and you’ll learn that the chapterhouse is protected by four books. To reopen the chapterhouse, and to disable the remaining guardians, you’ll need to pick up these four books.

Find the Book of Vigilant Defense

You’ll find the Book of Vigilant Defense in a locked room (#5). To get inside, you’ll need to pull a lever (#4). Grabbing the book will stop the nearby flame traps and guardians from attacking you, will give you the lore entry for Pillars of the Legion: Book 1, and will open the door to the remaining books.

Find the Book of Allegiance

You’ll find the Book of Allegiance in a locked room (#8). To get inside, you’ll need to pull a lever (#6). Grabbing the book will stop the nearby guardians from attacking you, and give you the lore entry for Pillars of the Legion: Book 3. To disable the guardians and flame traps in the central room (#6), and open up the door to the final book, you’ll also need to pick up the Book of Fair Judgment (#7).

Find the Book of Fair Judgment

You’ll find the Book of Fair Judgment in a locked room (#7). To get inside, you’ll need to pull a lever (#6). Grabbing the book will stop the nearby guardians from attacking you, and give you the lore entry for Pillars of the Legion: Book 2. To disable the guardians and flame traps in the central room (#6), and open up the door to the final book, you’ll also need to pick up the Book of Allegiance (#8).

Find the Book of Reconciliation

You won’t need to pull any levers for the Book of Reconciliation (#9). You’ll just need to pick it up. When you do, you’ll disable the nearby guardians and flame traps, you’ll gain the lore entry for Pillars of the Legion: Book 4, and the door leading to Level 1 will open up.

Restore the Books to Their Shelf

With all four books in hand, you’ll need to return to Level 1 of the chapterhouse, where you’ll find a bookshelf (#1). When you place the books in the bookshelf, it will open up, revealing the inner sanctum (#12) and a Causeway (W). Odo and Marten will then make their way over to the chapterhouse, and Odo will give you the quests Majority Rules (to recruit the Meisters) and The Tumbledown Court (to protect the queen). Your conversation with Odo will complete the quest and earn you 2563 xp.

Inside the inner sanctum you’ll find the lore entries for Crypts of the Sacred Blood, Glitterdelve Mine, Peoples of Ehb, and The Towns of the East.
