Black Knight Edredd Boss Guide – Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree

Black Knights dot the landscape of the Realm of Shadow, though only a couple have Aspect of the Crucible Incantations. Black Knight Edredd, captain of the Fort of Reprimand, is one such Knight, with the “Wings” Incantation that allows him to descend on the player from above. While otherwise similar to the other twinblade Black Knights in the Realm of Shadow, Edredd’s huge health bar and winged ability can make him somewhat of a threat, so we’re here to help you relieve him of his duties.

General Tips

  • Black Knight Edredd’s Wing attack can be pretty deadly, but dodging into it will keep you alive.
  • Edredd’s fast twinblade attacks are faster than the shield variants of the Black Knight, meaning that you’ll want to move quickly. The attacks, however, are easier to parry than most.
  • Backstabbing this boss is the easiest way to bring him down quickly. This can be tricky, but several of his combos leave him vulnerable to strafe and backstab.
  • Many of his moves have slightly delayed follow-ups. These combos aren’t long, but need to be prepared for.
  • Black Knight Edredd is easily flinched, which can knock him out of combos.

Strategy

Unlike Black Knight Garrew in the Fog Rift Fort, Black Knight Edredd actually has a boss room. Though he can be lured out of it, the fight will not activate until you enter the room. Because he is facing the door, this also means that you will not be able to backstab him, so you’ll have to start the fight on even footing.

Most of the time, Edredd will begin the fight with his signature move, his only additional attack compared to the other twinblade-wielding Black Knights you can find in the world. He will fly into the air after sprouting golden wings, and then dive at you, spinning as he does. This attack is surprisingly easy to roll straight through, however, so long as you roll into it. However, it can’t be easily punished, as Edredd can immediately recover and go into a follow-up.

Aside from that, Edredd’s spin-heavy moveset has some unique attributes. The main thing is to be ready to dodge and punish at the end of the Knight’s combos. However, if you have some skill at parrying, Edredd’s moveset (like all twinblade Black Knight’s) is one of the easiest to parry in Shadow of the Erdtree. However, unlike Garrew and the greatshield-and-hammer-wielding Black Knights, Edredd is not as easy to backstab (though it still isn’t too hard).

As long as you can keep up the pressure and get hits in at end of Edredd’s combos, you’ll also find yourself staggering and stance breaking him often, letting you pummel him (even without summons, which can’t be used her) and keep him from attacking. Overall, the real trick to this fight is just making sure to not get greedy. Edredd’s health pool is nothing to shrug at, after all. If you can manage that, it will make this fight a breeze.

Moveset

  • Winged Spinning Slash: Black Knight Edredd will sprout golden wings, then spin and descend toward the player. Dodge into the attack before it hits you.
  • Spinning Combo: Black Knight Edredd will brace, and then spin 3 times, slashing. Then, he will bring the blade down the other direction, then spin 2 more times in the original direction. The spacing is just long enough to dodge into each of these, and you can parry any of them.
  • Jumping Stab: Black Knight Edredd will leap into the air, then stab his twinblade down into the ground, attempting to impale the player. Dodge any direction as soon as Edredd starts coming down.
  • Overhead Combo: Black Knight Edredd will bring his blade above his head, then bring it down, up, and then spin to bring it down again. Dodge all three attacks, or parry any of them.
  • Upward Slash-Stab Combo: Edredd will slash his blade up, then stab at the player with a backhand strike. Dodge to the left for the first attack, and then either parry or dodge if Edredd can still hit you with the stab.
  • Twinblade Slash: Black Knight Edredd will spin his blade harmlessly a few times, bring it behind him, then swipe up. Dodge into the attack, or parry it.
