Elden Ring, FromSoftware’s open-world collaboration with George R.R. Martin that can be considered a spiritual successor to the studio’s Dark Souls series, is now live on Steam, as well as for both the current and next-gen Xbox and PlayStation consoles. Priced at $59.99 or your regional equivalent, the game offers an expansive world to explore, plenty of challenging battles and character customization options.

Those of you interested in the game’s reception will find a handful of reviews below. Though be advised that Steam’s user reviews are currently sitting at “Mixed,” mainly due to various performance issues. But then again, after playing Elden Ring for a few hours, I’ve not encountered any major issues yet, so basically, your experience may vary.

PC Gamer 90/100:

Elden Ring is junk food for FromSoftware fans. It’s more of what I already adore, but family sized. It has everything that makes these games so intoxicating, and that lodges their intricate fiction into my brain. But its devotion to what came before is distracting. It dulls the impact of those moments where Elden Ring leaps beyond its past to demonstrate why FromSoftware’s games are unparalleled by all who attempt to replicate them. As another Souls game, I love Elden Ring, but as the latest game from FromSoftware, I wanted it to dream a little bigger.

IGN 10/10:

It is no exaggeration to say that Elden Ring is FromSoftware’s largest and most ambitious game yet, and that ambition has more than paid off. Even after 87 hours of blood, sweat, and tears that included some of the most challenging fights I’ve ever fought, and innumerable surprises, there are still bosses that I left on the table, secrets that I’ve yet to uncover, sidequests that I missed out on, tons of weapons, spells, and skills that I’ve never used. And this is all on top of PVP and cooperative play that I’ve barely been able to scratch the surface of. Throughout it all, while the fundamentals of combat haven’t changed much from what we’ve seen before, the enormous variety of viciously designed enemies and the brutal but surmountable bosses have brought its battles to a new level. Even with all the threads I didn’t manage to tug on my first playthrough (of what I’m sure will be several), what I was treated to can easily be held amongst the best open-world games I’ve ever played. Like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild before it, Elden Ring is one that we’ll be looking back on as a game that moved a genre forward.

Elden Ring is not only the best action RPG developed by From Software but one of the best open-world titles ever made. A masterclass of game design, Elden Ring isn’t just a game but an epic dark fantasy journey that no one will be able to forget for a very long time.

A supercut of FromSoft’s very best work, transported to a totally new space. Elden Ring is not only a masterpiece by its developer’s lofty standards, but in packing so much density into the Lands Between, it lights the path ahead for open-world games in general.

Elden Ring represents a truly amazing combination of various game elements that all come together to create something fascinating, special, and unforgettable. Elden Ring isn’t just the best game this year; it’s one of the best games ever made.

Fextralife 9.5/10:

Elden Ring is FromSoftware’s Magnum Opus, and it’s hard to imagine them making a better game. The only negatives are performance related, which can by and large be overlooked. Elden Ring delivers on a scale that few games ever have, and likely ever will again. A day one buy for RPG and open world fans. Don’t miss out on this once in a decade experience!
