Background

You’ll receive this quest from Shelta Marie in Moonrise (#1) when you ask her if she has any jobs available (which you’ll only be able to do after you’ve asked her about the Blackened Bone Tavern).

Walkthrough

Shelta Marie will ask you to deliver a letter to Ranimer in the ranger clearing in the Elderoak Forest (#2), but she’ll stress that you should not unseal and read the letter yourself. When you agree to this restriction, she’ll hand you A Sealed Letter. Elderoak Forest is located to the east of Moonrise, and you’ll be able to reach the ranger clearing via a narrow trail starting next to the bridge in the center of the map (#3).

If you ignore Shelta’s instructions and read the letter, then you’ll see the following: “If the seal on this letter was broken or altered in any way, kill the person who delivers it to you.” Oops. If you still try to deliver the letter, then the rangers in the clearing will attack you. Even if you survive this battle, which isn’t likely, you’ll lose Alywin as a trainer, and you won’t receive the quest Baptism in Fire.

So assuming you leave the letter sealed, when you deliver it to Ranimer, he’ll tell you the code word “fireglow.” This will complete Part 1 of the quest and earn you 500 xp.

For Part 2 of the quest, you’ll just need to return to Shelta and say “fireglow” to her. This will complete the quest and earn you 500 xp. Shelta will then explain that she had you deliver the letter so she could see if you were trustworthy or not, and since you passed the test, she’ll tell you how you can enter Old Moonrise, which is where the Blackened Bone Tavern is located. This will trigger the quest Baptism in Fire.
