Gameplay Tips – Fable II

This section contains some general tips that can help you out on your Fable II journey.

Gameplay Tips

  • As with the original Fable, there is no time limit in the game and your character’s age doesn’t make any significant difference (other than the game’s unavoidable childhood, early adulthood, and late adulthood chapters). Therefore, feel free to take your time exploring everything the game has to offer. Such exploration is rewarding, as there are many treasures hidden about Albion. And with a trinket-finding canine friend at your side, it’s pretty easy to track down everything of value if you’re willing to stray off a path or two.
  • Throughout the game, you’ll have to make numerous choices that affect your good/evil and pure/corrupt scores. If you want to accrue points toward a “good” path, then you’ll want to donate money to the Temple of Light in Oakfield, share your wealth with beggars, and generally live a life of righteousness. If you want to accrue points toward an “evil” path, then you’ll want to sacrifice Albion’s citizens at the Temple of Shadows (Temple of Light monks are a bonus!), maim and murder whenever you see fit, steal anything that isn’t nailed, and generally cause pain and suffering in the world.
  • Your pure/corrupt meter is easier to influence than good/evil, in my opinion. Not only do foods sway the score, but you’ll move quickly one way or another if you simply increase or decrease the rent/prices at any of your properties. Hike everything to +100% and your meter will be overloaded with corruption in no time.
  • Speaking of properties, they’re also the best source of gold in Fable II. If you really want to save up enough to buy Castle Fairfax or the Bowerstone Cemetery Mansion, you’re going to have to make some investments first. Spend some time gambling or working as a blacksmith, woodcutter, or bartender until you have a sizeable amount of gold, then go buy a handful of lucrative properties (make sure you rub elbows with the owners first to bring the price down, too). Since the game calculates your real estate earnings even when you aren’t playing the game, you can easily earn your original investment back in a day or two. Take a few days off from the game and you’ll come back a rich Hero.
  • So now that you’re rich, how about some experience-gaining tips? The best advice I can give you there is to use your brutal and dextrous styles to take out enemies quickly and efficiently while taking as little damage as possible. Gracefully carve through a group of Hollow Men without getting hurt and you’ll get a nice +200% or higher bonus to your gained experience. If you have a pile of gold burning a hole in your pocket, then you may want to pay a visit to any of the stationary or traveling potion vendors in the game to pick up any of their strength, skill, will, or general experience potions. It doesn’t take long to max out all of your Hero’s abilities when you’re hopping between vendors and cleaning them out of all their Thunder’s Strength PotionsExpert Skill PotionsUndiluted Will Potions, and Pure Experience Extracts.

And that about does it. On with the walkthrough!
