Hogwarts Legacy Wands

In case you are new to the universe in which Hogwarts Legacy is set, let’s review wands. Wands are used by most of the wizarding communities of the world. However, there are exceptions, like Natsai Onai‘s Uagadou-the largest wizarding school in the world. Wands originated in Europe and a London maker of wands, Ollivander’s, is renowned for their quality and craftsmanship. When you start the game, you will be given a wand to borrow, and later receive your own wand. In Hogwarts, wizards and witches use their wands frequently, and the player’s character is no exception. You will use it to attack, cast utility spells, create objects through transfiguration, and in many other ways.

Wand Customization

Early on in the game, you will start a quest that’s called “Welcome to Hogsmeade”. During this quest, you will visit the famous wand shop, Ollivander’s. It’s a joyous scene, and captures the magic of customizing one’s wand quite well. Throughout the process, you will choose a myriad of different options for your wand. It’s important to note that your choices will not affect your character’s magic ability, but you can’t change your wand after you have crafted it-so make sure you like it!

Wand Cores

Arguably the most important part of a wand is its core, and there are three different types:

  • Dragon Heartstring
  • Unicorn Hair
  • Pheonix feather

Each one symbolizes something different and has an explanation for its advantages and shortcomings. Apparently, the original Ollivander is the reason that wands are only made with these three types; before him, people would make subpar wands with less effective cores.

Wand Wood Types

Another very important attribute for wands is their wood type. In the game, there are 38 different types of wood from which the player can choose. There is also lore behind every different wood type! There are also reasons for having a shorter or longer wand beyond the size of the person. Even more, the flexibility of the wand helps explain the relationship between it and the owner.
