[Leak] Hogwarts Legacy Potential Release Date

It’s been a rough couple of months for Hogwarts Legacy fans. There was no sign of the game at the October Sony State of Play, and a rumor that we’d see Hogwarts Legacy news “soon or in December” now must surely mean December if it’s to come true at all. A lot of fans had pinned their hopes on the most recent State of Play, especially after a vague tweet from Millie A seemed to suggest Hogwarts Legacy would show up there — but no dice.

Now there’s yet another chance for eager Hufflepuffs and Slytherins to-be to get their hopes up: Reddit user u/nicowtine discovered what appears to be Hogwarts Legacy on the updated Geforce Now database leak. A game named “Harry Potter Universe”, with Avalanche Salt Lake listed as the developer, has a release date of 2022-03-08. Despite the game not being listed as “Hogwarts Legacy”, the fact that it’s a WB Games Harry Potter title being developed by Avalanche Software makes it pretty clear that this is referring to Hogwarts Legacy.

Exciting as this is, the release date found in the leaked document should be taken with a grain of salt. It seems strange that we still haven’t seen gameplay footage, or anything beyond the original announcement trailer, only 5 months from launch. It’s also very possible that the March date is simply an internal goal (rather than an official date), or that this is an old document with an outdated release date.

Still, a lack of information doesn’t necessarily indicate that Hogwarts Legacy isn’t nearing completion. By not revealing too much about the game, Warner Bros is giving Avalanche the ability to remove or alter things as they continue development; anything shown off in a trailer would surely cause a stir if it ended up on the cutting room floor.

While this info does line up with previous evidence that Hogwarts Legacy would release in early 2022, it’s far from concrete. Until we get official word from WB or Avalanche, our next best hope for news is probably the Game Awards in December.

Does the leaked release date seem legit to you, or is it simply copium for fans who haven’t accepted what the lack of gameplay footage really means? Let us know what you think in the comments!
