ICARUS Beta Weekend 6 Sneak Peek

In the recent Beta Weekend 5 Community Highlights, Rocketwerkz revealed some interesting new information about upcoming Beta Weekends. The announcement contained some hints about what we’ll see in the next mission, and details on Beta Weekend 7. We also got confirmation that the game’s launch is still on track for December 4th, and we now have a better idea of what the 1.0 release will contain.

The announcement also gave a start time for the next Beta Weekend: BW 6 will begin November 5th at 5pm PDT — whether or not it will be extended through Monday like the last few Beta Weekends remains to be seen.

Beta Weekend 6 will feature the first tiered mission, which sounds like it involves multiple steps and contains significant story elements. Due to the nature of the tiered missions, characters will be wiped so that the Icarus team can see how Level 1 Prospectors progress through the mission objectives (those of you who decided to grind to 30 on multiple characters, our condolences). These missions will also give us a chance to learn more about the various factions behind the Icarus project.

The seventh Beta Weekend is the community focused one, and is set to be a celebration for all the players who participated in the Icarus Beta. Look forward to community competitions and giveaways as we wave goodbye to only getting to play every two weeks.

Not only was the launch date for Icarus confirmed, but we now know that exotics-mining will be part of the 1.0 release. While it might have been nice to see such a key system tested in the beta, RocketWerkz has done a great job responding to feedback and testing so far, and it’s hard to imagine they’ll fumble such an important aspect of their game. The game’s launch should also include new prospects and missions, as well as a Day 1 patch.
