Legend of Grimrock Reviews

We have another handful of reviews for the indie first-person dungeon crawler Legend of Grimrock, which seem to confirm the initial positive impressions for the title.

IGN, 8.5/10.

Underneath its gorgeous sheen and striking atmosphere, Legend of Grimrock is an unapologetic nod to PC gaming’s earlier days. Playing it reawakens those same feelings of excitement I had back when I got into early dungeon crawler RPGs for the first time. There’s something magical about the skillful way the dev team takes such antiquated game design and makes it feel new and fun again, pushing all the right nostalgia buttons in the process. But more importantly, everything about this well-crafted romp through deadly dungeons comes together to pull you into its mysterious realm and hold on.

BeefJack, 8.5/10.

Legend of Grimrock is a specialist genre piece of the kind only indie development allows for unashamedly revivalist, belonging to a long-dead form. It’s a game about walls, for goodness’ sake. But its challenges are so finely crafted by its four-man team that its appeal should reach far beyond the barriers it’s made for itself, if only that larger audience can find it.

Blistered Thumbs, 8/10.

For $15.00, and being DRM free, Legend of Grimrock is a nostalgic throwback and Almost Human should get credit for the job well done in recapturing the magic of the 1980s. That said, the game may not be for everyone. The slower pace and emphasis on puzzle solving may actually turn off a few players from the experience, so it may be worth looking at videos or a possible demo before you buy the product. But rest assured, this is one dungeon that is worth traversing in the end, even if it is a one time adventure.

Mashable, scoreless.

If you’re looking for a rich and expansive fantasy world, save your gold for a title like Skyrim or The Witcher 2. If you prefer a no-nonsense dungeon crawl that plays by classic D&D rules and focuses on one quest at a time, Legend of Grimrock is worth every penny.
