Age of Wonders: Planetfall Previews

A hands-on demo for Triumph Studios and Paradox Interactive’s sci-fi 4X/RPG hybrid Age of Wonders: Planetfall was available at this year’s E3. As a result, we can now read a series of previews for the game ahead of its August 6, 2019 release. By the looks of it, Planetfall is shaping up to be a very worthwhile addition to the long-running series. Have a look:

IGN:

It may have only been one battle in a larger war, but it felt exhilarating enough to have been its own main mission in any turn-based strategy game. If I had enough time to get a feel for all the options, customization, and tech available to my adorable cyborg zombie crew, I have the feeling those last 10 turns until world domination would have been extremely fun.

WCCFTech:

Age of Wonders: Planetfall isn’t going to turn the turn-based strategy genre on its head, but it looks to be this franchise’s deepest, most challenging entry to date. Add a creative new sci-fi universe to the mix, and you have a game that just might elevate Age of Wonders beyond its previous limits and into the rarified air occupied by competitors like Civilization. Even if Planetfall doesn’t achieve that lofty goal, it’s a game 4X fans should be revving their rocket boosters for.

Dualshockers:

While strategy games that try to ape other, more popular ones are usually bad, Age of Wonders: Planetfall avoids this by retaining element that people love from the Age of Wonders series while crafting its own unique identity with things like customizable leaders, sector specializations, and secret technologies. If you are a strategy game or 4X fan itching to find another game to lose yourself in, Age of Wonders: Planetfall should have you covered.

GuruGamer:

These days while other strategy games are trying to ape the others, and usually the popular are kinda bad, Planetfall avoid that by keeping its originality while developing something unique on top of that.
