Asheron’s Call 2 Preview @ Wargamer

The Wargamer has written a preview of Asheron’s Call 2, based upon their experiences in the beta test. Check it out:

So what does Asheron’s Call 2: Fallen Kings bring to the table that will set it apart from its predecessors, such as the venerable Everquest or the popular Dark Age of Camelot? To truly ring in this supposed second generation, these new games are certainly going to have to offer something other than the increasingly staid game mechanics of the supposed first generation.

The biggest difference is that there are zero non-player characters (NPC’s) in the game. Yes, that’s printed correctly. Other than the creatures one can battle in the game, there is not a single NPC in the entire game. There’s no one in the towns, there’s no one in the fields, there’s no one anywhere, and trust me, I’ve looked. The entire economy will be player run, based on players investing time and money into a detailed system of crafting and actually creating the economy from scratch. Will this work? Who knows.
