Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance II Reviews

A few more reviews for the Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance sequel have shown up on the web. The first is over at Gaming Illustrated with an overall score of 82%:

Gamers looking for a single-player action RPG will find a lot to like in Dark Alliance II, more than enough to warrant a purchase if they’re fans of D&D or the first Dark Alliance. However, set against the online capabilities and beautiful graphics of Champions of Norrath, Dark Alliance II pales.

The second is at RPGDot with an overall score of 88%:

In the end, it really comes down to a matter of preferences. Do you like your RPG’s with lots of dialogue, non-linear storyline with lots of side-quests, and deep and involving character development? Then you’re in the wrong place. Do you like killing anything that moves while building your character to be the most powerful thing in the gameworld? Then you belong here. Black Isle does a fine job with what must now (with the cancellation of Fallout 3) be considered its flagship franchise, improving just enough on the original game to keep fans interested, and creating a fine new experience for the uninitiated. It’s a good-looking, action-packed, RPG-lite romp, and it doesn’t aspire to be anything more. And that’s just fine.

And the third is at GameRate with no overall score:

Hack-n-slash fans rejoice because Dark Alliance II will be a treat for all who enjoy the series. Packed full of great new features, tons of new enemies, and a perfectly flowing storyline there is none better than Dark Alliance II. The graphics are stunning, the audio is brilliant, and the gameplay shows why Dark Alliance II is still at the top of the genre. Sure, there are a few aspects of the game could have used a bit more attention, but the overwhelming greatness of everything else in this title quickly erases any complaints from mind. This is one of those games that just beckons you to complete it, and most gamers will not be able to put this one down. Those that feel the hack-n-slash games are a bit repetitive, I’d still recommend checking out BG:DA II due to its great combination of gameplay and overall presentation. True fans of the series will not be disappointed and should pick this one up with no question.
