Betrayal at Baldur’s Gate Board Game Released

Wizards of the Coast have partnered with Avalon Hill to bring us Betrayal at Baldur’s Gate, a board game of monster slaying and deception, based on Avalon Hill’s previous, highly acclaimed Betrayal at House on the Hill game. You can purchase Betrayal at Baldur’s Gate for $50 on Amazon or at your local retailer. Here are a couple of paragraphs to give you a better idea of what the game’s all about:

The shadow of Bhaal has come over Baldur’s Gate, summoning monsters and other horrors from the darkness!

As you build and explore the iconic city’s dark alleys and deadly catacombs, you must work with your fellow adventurers to survive the terrors ahead. That is, until some horrific evil turns one—or possibly more—of you against each other. Was it a mind flayer’s psionic blast or the whisperings of a deranged ghost that caused your allies to turn traitor? You’ll have no choice but to keep your enemies close!

Based on the award-winning Betrayal at House on the Hill board game, Betrayal at Baldur’s Gate you’ll return to Baldur’s Gate again and again only to discover it’s never the same game twice.

Can you and your party survive the madness or will you succumb to the mayhem and split (or slaughter!) the party?

And here’s the press release we received with some additional info:

Seattle, WA – October 6, 2017 – Avalon Hill and Dungeons & Dragons today released the highly-anticipated Betrayal at Baldur’s Gate, a new board game based on the award-winning Betrayal at House on the Hill. With one of Forgotten Realms’ most iconic locations serving as the backdrop, Betrayal at Baldur’s Gate players work together to explore the city and defeat monsters from the D&D universe like beholders, mind flayers and other horrors emerging from the darkness. That is, until an unspeakable evil force turns one or more players against the group.

A shadow has fallen over Baldur’s Gate, summoning evil from the depths, and it is up to the players to build and explore the iconic city’s seedy alleys and deadly catacombs to vanquish the dark forces. “Betrayal at Baldur’s Gate combines the strengths of both Dungeons & Dragons and the original Betrayal at House on the Hill,” says Mike Mearls, Senior Manager, Dungeons & Dragons Design and Development. “Both games are about exploring strange places and facing horrible monsters. Betrayal adds an element of horror and mistrust to the mix that D&D has never quite had before. If our playtests are anything to go by, it’s an addition that D&D fans are eager to embrace.”

Designed for ages 12 and up, Betrayal at Baldur’s Gate allows players to take on the role of an iconic D&D character class and race as they embark on a thrilling tale of adventure and intrigue making it the perfect introduction to the world of Dungeons & Dragons. The city of Baldur’s Gate is revealed tile by tile, creating a completely new game every time. With 50 unique haunts each telling a different D&D-themed story, Betrayal at Baldur’s Gate keeps players coming back for a new challenge again and again. The game is now available nationwide with an MSRP of $50.
