Camelot Grab Bag Q&A

Mythic’s Sanya Thomas has once again posted her weekly Grab Bag Q&A on the Camelot Herald, this time addressing questions about the Darkness Rising expansion, exploit bannings, and more. A little something to get you started:

Q: While doing instanced task dungeons over and over, I’ve noticed that occasionally I’ll run into a dungeon where the mobs are the correct level and hp, but have extra strength and spell resist.

Example: I ran into one of these as a level 8 Ice Theurgist. This task dungeon had blue con mobs in it. Now, contrary to the dungeon before where only two ice summons were needed on a long path, this one required 3 if not 4 when I didn’t want to fight it with my staff. The blue con creatures were resisting like crazy. I’ve found the only way to fix this is to get a new task dungeon, then its back to normal.

My question is, is this an anti-automation feature or a bug?

A: Our first instinct is to say “neither,” because what you’re describing is pretty well within the bounds of what “random” means at that level. (In the course of rolling a twenty sided die a thousand times, a streak of all ones or twenties is to be expected.) We have not designed or coded any system that makes the dungeon harder after a few repetitions by a single player.

I never rule out the possibility of bugs, merely the probability. If you continue to notice such issues, and you think it can’t be explained by pure luck, make sure you include the name of the instance and the monsters you’re fighting in your feedback so I can ask for a more thorough investigation.
