Champions Online Previews

Two more previews of Cryptic’s Champions Online are available, both of which are based on hands-on impressions of the superhero MMORPG.

A snip from IncGamers’ article:

Champions currently has over 900 quests, which are story and mission driven. A popular system from other MMOs, public quests, has also been adapted for Champions. In Millennium City, the hero’s hometown, players will often see robberies or other crimes taking place; it is their choice to step in and help other heroes tackle the problem, or carry on with their previous tasks. Interestingly, the more players help out in the city to keep crime off the streets, the better the city will appear (less graffiti was an example that we were given). One such quest is the ‘Jailbreak’. Heroes will be alerted by their crime computer that a number of dangerous criminals have escaped from Millennium City’s prison. Help round them back up and you will be rewarded.

And a snip from Aeropause Games’ article:

Apparently, Cryptic purchased the rights to the HERO pen-and-paper RPG system and then licensed it back to the original publisher to publish the 6th edition. I’ve never played the HERO system, but apparently, Champions Online is loosely based on the HERO system, and you will be able to adapt your Champions Online character into a valid PnP RPG character using the 6th edition HERO system rules.

I know that PnP RPG’s are a bit of a fringe discipline amongst gamers, but this makes my little geek heart go pitter-patter. I’d love to be able to meet up with my guild for some PnP RPG action between endgame missions.
