Champions Online Reviews

Cryptic’s latest foray in the massively multiplayer online RPG sector has garnered another batch of reviews.

MMORPG.com gives it a 7.5/10:

If you’re an MMOG fan just looking for the next great thing with little tolerance for the growing pains of a new MMOG, Champions Online probably won’t do it for you, as it lacks the longevity and depth when compared to other MMOGs already on the market.

If however, you are a comic book geek who loved City of Heroes and you’re looking for the next step in superhero MMOGs, Champions Online certainly does enough better than City of Heroes to warrant the purchase.

Bite My Review goes with a 5/10:

Champions Online is a great single player game, try it, enjoy it, and then put it away. Use your free month and get as far as you can, because chances are that your days in CO will be numbered based on boredom and tedium. In fact, I’d rather stab myself in the face repeatedly than play Champions Online again.

And Ten Ton Hammer just offers us some first impressions:

Champions Online is a pretty good game as a superhero-based MMOG. While there is nothing really groundbreaking in it, the game does use a tried and true formula that works. The scenery is interesting and the themes of the areas are creative, keeping the game interesting as you make your way through it. The music is well done and often fits the theme of the area well. For example, in Burnside you get a clearly defined western theme somewhat symbolic of those old spaghetti western movies as you make your way through the old west style ghost town. While the game does have a few issues, some that are being worked on, it’s certainly worth giving a try if you’re a fan of the superhero genre.
