City of Heroes Review

Gamehelper has tossed up a review of City of Heroes, basing the final score of 8.3/10 upon both the original game and the “Through the Looking Glass” update. An excerpt:

Go buy this game right now! It rocks!! No, really—you kids get off my lawn so I can go back to playing this fine game my damn self. Hey I’ve got a superheroic cat with sharp claws over here named Cheyenna and I am *not* afraid to use her! Seriously though, it’s been a long time since a game has captured me in this way and has made me forsake all other games but the one [OK, Frodo. – ED]. That’s the way I feel about this game—there are so many different characters and costume combinations I want to try. I want to explore the differences in story arcs among the different Origins and discover the wonders of Mind Control and Illusion Control. I want to take on Task Force missions and enjoy the sight of the city’s Archvillains falling to mine and my team mates combined efforts. That’s what makes this game worth playing—the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat. And isn’t that what it may truly feel like to be a superhero?
