Create Item Skills and Scribe Scroll

Gamer revisits these two topics:

A lot of people have been saying that Create Item skills and Scribe Scroll won’t be implemented in the game – but so far I have heard no official word from BioWare…Now I understand it might be a little technically difficult to implement some Create Item skills – but NWN will have day/night cycles – so it should be POSSIBLE. Scribe Scroll, on the under hand, poses nothing of the technical difficulties of the other Create Item skills… It’s relatively quick and painless….

    Quote(Rob Bartel, NWN Co-Lead Designer):

    Item creation:

    Okay, calm down here. It’s unfortunate that we don’t have the time and manpower to implement item creation feats in the initial release but we’re still very fond of them and they are high on the list for implementation in potential future expansions. In the meantime, item creation and customization is still fully supported within the toolset and can be enhanced and made accessible in-game through some creative scripting (Trent provided one very simple example of that).

    Also remember that, in the official 3e rules, the item creation process is a lengthy one, stretching over days, weeks, even months of game time. As such, we feel that this process is best left in the hands of the many creative DMs and module designers that will be forming the basis of the NWN community. Remember, even without the item creations feats specifically embedded in the game, NWN provides far more opportunity for unique item creation than any other CRPG based on the D&D rules. Trust me on this one, you’ll be fine.

    Quote(Keith Soleski, NWN Line Producer):

    High level mages will not be able to enchant items or scrolls in the initial release of Neverwinter Nights. We are looking into adding this feature in future expansion packs.

    So, basically thses things will only occur with a DM’s intervention. And beyond the Dev time issue that’s one of the main reasons it’s not included, it takes too much control out of the DM’s hands as to what items end up in their world.
