DAoC is no longer One Person’s Cup of Tea

In an attempt to bring you full coverage of the game, we are not going to filter the news with only the positive about DAoC. Most of the best Everquest sites give rants about the game as well as positive changes. So with that…

Here comes a very interesting editorial on why this person is going back to Everquest after playing DAoC since the early betas. Why is this interesting? Because I’d really like to know how many of you feel the same way – those that have also played Everquest for a goodly amount of time as well.

DAoC has its own special charm but admittedly (by me) it is not as deep as the wizened grandfather EQ. Here’s a bit from the editorial:

Dark Age of Camelot was supposed to be great. And really, I’d like to start off by saying it really is a good game. My account is still active, just unused at the moment. Maybe later I will go back, I don’t know.

So what made me go back to EQ? Well first off a lot of friends did. I missed playing with them, so that was part of my decision. However a lot of friends also stayed. So with that out of the way, lets look at the other more technical reasons for leaving.

Which game is more addictive?

Stat that we’ll never know: Relative proportion of total DAoC players over those who have lost their life over the game (vs.) Relative proportion of total EQ players over those who have lost their life over the game.

My guess is that EQ’s is higher because it caters more to the hardcore gaming audience who are more likely in general to become severely addicted.
