Dark Envoy Development Update 1 – Motion Capture

Event Horizon, the team behind last year’s dungeon-crawling action-RPG Tower of Time, is currently busy working on Dark Envoy, their next project that promises plenty of turn-based battles in a world that combines magic with steampunk elements. With the game scheduled for a 2020 release, we can now check out its first development update that shares some sample motion-captured animations. Have a look:

Perhaps it is an overkill for an RPG game to have hundreds of motion capture animations, but we do not compromise on anything. After all:

“He will win whose army is animated by the same spirit throughout all its ranks.”
Sun Tzu

This is a clip from one of our motion capture sessions in-house. It is taken directly from the capture software and unedited in any way, so you can see that the base quality is already great. We usually spend 1 hour for each animation clip (2-4 seconds) to clean it and make it perfect.

Compared to a laborious process of creating animations by keyframes, which can take between 1 and 3 days (depending on complexity), it is a great time saver and let’s us focus more on other features and mechanics.
