Dead State Kickstarter Project Update #4, $137,000 and Counting

I suppose Dead State’s latest Kickstarter project update doesn’t really concern us, considering we’ve covered this Kickstarter extensively since its launch, but the team at DoubleBear has some information on how you can try to help them spread the word about it, and also a WIP version of a wallpaper they’ll be sending to all backers. Here’s an excerpt from the update:

However, you may have noticed a lack of coverage on a lot of big game sites. One problem that many projects on Kickstarter are running into is an idea in the gaming press that Kickstarter coverage is (old news) or no longer important to most gamers. We realize that there have been many articles about Kickstarter games, but exposure to new games and exciting projects is as important as ever!

Kickstarter isn’t only about funding, it’s about supporting new ideas and teams willing to take chances. While we don’t expect to change the mainstream overnight, massive gamer interest in new kinds of settings or mechanics will register with mainstream development, so if you want to see change, you have to start small. Indie gaming and the support of Kickstarter patrons like you can influence the shape of games to come.

The gaming press needs to hear it from you. Demand coverage of Dead State or other Kickstarter projects you support, because otherwise, they won’t report on it. A thousand voices are a lot stronger than one. If there’s a game site that you follow, contact the editor, tell them why you think it’s important to cover Dead State. If you do mail them, please ask them politely and thank them for their time, and hopefully they’ll consider the message.

With new exposure comes more backers contributing to projects that you want to succeed. More money for a project like Dead State gets us a bigger team, bigger goals, and a better game for both the developers and the backers. We really appreciate your financial support, but if you can help us get the word out, we can make sure that Dead State is as successful as possible.
