DeathSpank: The Baconing Reviews

There’s no shortage of cheap downloadable hack’n’slash titles these days, and we’ve rounded up another small batch of reviews for one of the most recently released, the third chapter in the DeathSpank franchise, also known as The Baconing, which so far hasn’t managed to convince critics.

The Baconing has its ups and downs, as does every game, but when deciding whether or not to give it a try, think about it. If you’re a fan of the other games in the series and want to fix your craving for more Deathspank, I’d say go ahead and dive into it if you can find it on sale at your preferred digital distributor

The Baconing might be a game you’ll enjoy if you really love DeathSpank and find the combat tolerable enough, although it’ll still inevitably let a lot of people down expecting a huge improvement over the previous two titles. By focusing on combat, the game loses a lot of what made it seem so fresh when the original DeathSpank was released. Instead, we’re left with a hollow shell of what could have been a great franchise.

The Baconing is a solid adventure that lives up to the series. If you’re a diehard fan of Deathspank then you’ll like this game. As always, Deathspank has a wide variety of characters that make the game fun and different from other adventure games. With over 100 quests, Deathspank is a great time waster. I kept playing for a while and lost track. There is much of the same from the previous Deathspank games, which for the most part is a good thing, because why would you fix something that isn’t broken? Aside from the loss of puzzles and addition of deeper combat, fans of the series will be happy with The Baconing.

And finally, No Ramifications offers a scoreless, but positive in tone, video review of the Mac version of the title.
