Deep Down Won’t Have a Female Playable Character

We still don’t know for sure whether Capcom’s free-to-play PS4 exclusive is going to be released in Europe and North America, but now, thanks to the folks at DualShockers, who have transcribed some info snippets from a Nico Nico stream in Japanese, we know that the game won’t feature a playable female character. According to a Facebook post from producer Kazunori Sugiura (translated by Gematsu), this comes down to story reasons, as the story is based around one male hero, presumably the only playable character:

This is producer Sugiura.

From our overseas firm, there was big misconception in an article claiming that there were 12 main characters* in Deep Down, all of them male. As the person in charge on the development side, I’d like to explain the matter.

There is one male main character in Deep Down. The story is being developed around him and his surrounding Ravens comrades.

At the moment, an overseas release hasn’t been decided, but I am grateful for the attention Deep Down is receiving.

Please look out for more information in the future.

I have to admit that this seems like a slightly weird choice for a multiplayer-based RPG, but to be fair, I might not have the right idea about the game. Capcom hasn’t exactly been forthcoming with information either.

Thanks, VG247.
