Deus Ex: Human Revolution Voice Acting Interviews

For all the things the original Deus Ex from Ion Storm was brilliant at, voice acting didn’t exactly fall into that category, being in an awkward space between downright hilarious and just plain bad. Luckily for us, Deus Ex: Human Revolution appears to be at least competent in this categories, which makes the two interviews with Adam Jensen’s voice actor Elias Toufexis we’ve rounded up a lot more appealing to a potential reader.

Extra Hype:

EH: Have we seen the last of Adam Jensen? Or is DE:HR a new beginning for the Deus Ex series?

ET: You tell me man. I only work here.

EH: You are a self-proclaimed fan of the Deus Ex series, and you said that you have played the original. Is it same to assume you’re a gamer? If yes, what games do you enjoy playing most?

ET: Yes I’m definitely a gamer. I play a lot of NHL online and I love Zombie games. Left 4 Dead etc. I’m looking forward to Dead Island. I just finished LA Noire and I really liked it. I just kept running over citizens.

EH: Have you played Human Revolution yet? If yes, how did you like it compared to the original?

ET: I just stopped it to come and do this interview. I’m about half way through and I truly, honestly love it. It’s not because I act in it (I’ve acted in games I didn’t particularly enjoy) but because it’s just a great story and game. I don’t really remember everything I recorded so the story is pretty fresh to me. I love it. I really liked the original too.

EH: The Deus Ex series has put some deep and serious questions, as well as moral dilemmas about humanity, it’s evolution and science on the table. What’s your view on these subjects? For instance: Would you get augmented if you had the chance?

ET: Would I get augmented? In a second. Especially if I didn’t need Neuropozyne. I want a cloaking system, a Casie system and the ability to punch through walls. Too much to ask? The moral dilemma doesn’t concern me if I’m the only one allowed to have it!

Piki Geek:

PG: Do you feel that you identify with Adam Jensen as a person?

ET: It’s impossible, because Jensen can go in so many directions. There are things that you can choose for Jensen to do that I would never choose. so if I watched you play it, I could decide if I (identify) with you. Jensen’s personality is up to you.

PG: What sort of shenanigans occurred in the Eidos recording studio?

ET: We joked around a lot. There were things that were hard to pronounce sometimes. I remember my wife Michelle (who plays Megan in the game) just couldn’t say (electrodes) and we made fun of her for months.

PG: How much free reign were you given as an artist?

ET: The voice directors and writers and I all saw eye to eye most of the time. If we didn’t, it didn’t last long.
