Doomfist Overwatch 25th Hero Announced

Well, I’m a little late off the blocks with this one but finally after so many weeks and months of expectations Blizzard have finally announced that Doomfist will be their 25th Overwatch hero. Doomfist is in the Overwatch PTR so if you want to take a sneaky peak and test the new hero, download the PTR client and jump in. This is what you have to look forward to…

Story

Akande Ogundimu was born into a well-regarded Nigerian family, heir to its prosthetic-technology company. He had a good business head on his shoulders, but it was competitive martial arts where his true passion lay. He trained in traditional African fighting styles, including Dambe and Gidigbo, as well as wrestling and other modern combat systems.

With these skills in his arsenal Ogundimu competed in tournaments all over the continent, but had to retire when he lost his right arm in the Omniac Crisis. Luckily the family owned company fixed his arm, but he could now no longer take part competitively. He tried to go back to the family business but he just couldn’t get as excited.

Doomfist ScreenshotThe second Doomfist, the Scourge of Numbani, otherwise known as Adeyemi offered Ogundimu the chance to fight with him as a mercenary. Sceptical at first he excelled and was soon brought into the Talon organisation. Talon’s belief that humanity would be made stronger through conflict resonated with Ogundimu’s personal experiences. Moreover, Talon’s power struggles presented a new challenge that allowed him to use his talent in the boardroom along with his cunning as a combatant.

Adeyemi was useful and talented but Talon saw more in Adeyemi including his grander vision for Talon. This difference in aspiration would lead Ogundimu to kill his teacher and take on the mantle of Doomfist, along with the eponymous gauntlet.

As the latest Doomfist, he become a powerful figure within Talon and began to orchestrate a conflict that would engulf the world. However, an Overwatch strike team (inc. Tracer, Winston and Genji) ended that plan before it could begin. He was captured and imprisoned in a high-sec prison.

Finally, he sensed that the time had come for him to return. He broke out of his prison and recovered the gauntlet in a one-sided battle with Numbani’s newly unveiled OR15 defense robots. Now, he has retaken his place in Talon’s inner council, ready to spark a war that will consume the world once again.

Playstyle

“Doomfist’s cybernetics make him a highly-mobile, powerful frontline fighter. In addition to dealing ranged damage with his Hand Cannon, he can slam the ground, knock enemies into the air and off-balance, or charge into the fray with his Rocket Punch. When facing a tightly packed group, Doomfist leaps out of view, then crashes down to earth with a spectacular Meteor Strike.”

Doomfist Abilities

Hand Cannon

Doomfist fires a short-range burst from the knuckles of his fist. Its ammunition is automatically regenerated over a short time

Rocket Punch

After charging up, Doomfist lunges forward and knocks an enemy back, dealing additional damage if they impact a wall

Rising Uppercut

Doomfist uppercuts enemies in front of him into the air

Seismic Slam

Doomfist leaps forward and smashes into the ground, knocking nearby enemies toward him.

Ultimate Attack – Meteor Strike

Doomfist leaps into the sky, and then crashes to the ground, dealing significant damage.

Personal Shield

Doomfist generates a personal shield as he inflicts damage. So, in his case offense is definitely the best defense.
