Dragon Age: Origins Previews

Previews of BioWare’s Dragon Age: Origins continue to trickle in, thanks to the game’s showing at the New York Comic Con. Let’s start with 1UP:

While BioWare’s RPGs have always been more adult-oriented (well, maybe not Sonic Chronicles), Origins will up the ante even further with a dark story that delves deep into the evils of a perilous world. In previous games, the choices you made were pretty cut and dry — there was a “good guy” choice, a “bad guy” choice, and sometimes a neutral alternative. But BioWare promises that delineation won’t be quite so black-and-white this time. While Origins will have options that are obviously good and evil, more choices will fall into a middle ground, where even doing what’s right means sacrifice, and unexpected consequences can follow every decision.

And then move to Bit-tech:

However you decide to play the game though, the bulk of your main quest in Dragon Age comes from trying to raise an army with which to push back The Blight. To do so you’ll need to prove your worth and win the allegiance of certain groups, be they werewolves, elves or human or any other race. Choosing who to side with is more than just a case of balancing numbers though some groups aren’t compatible at all or are mutually exclusive.

On a smaller scale the same is true with your party too and, as in Baldur’s Gate where you had to make a choice between Minsc and Edwin, you’ll have to make similar choices in Dragon Age with who you want in your party. Your characters are as vocal as always too, giving you options to develop them over time in terms of both abilities and personality.
