Dungeon Siege II Reviews

Another large batch of Dungeon Siege II reviews have hit the web, all of which give the action RPG a fairly positive score. The first is at IGN PC with an overall score of 8.5/10:

When it comes down to it, Dungeon Siege II is a fine game that takes a while to appreciate. Those expecting a straightforward dungeon hack will find those elements in spades, while the traditional RPG fan will also be rewarded with a long story and lots of world detail. I contend that if DS2 rubs you the wrong way then you’re just not digging deep enough. Not only was I compelled to finish the game as an editor, I felt a compulsion to finish the game as a gamer. For me, it rekindled a sense of adventure I hadn’t realized I’d been missing, despite its quirks.

The second is at Yahoo! Games Domain with an overall score of 8/10:

Dungeon Siege II hasn’t improved significantly in the story or visuals department, but it’s got deeper play mechanics, and the party management has been tweaked to allow for the level of hands-on interaction the player’s comfortable with. It’s also an incontrovertibly vast game — in a dangerous, time-absorbing, “Oh look, it’s morning!” sort of way. This is solid, well implemented — if a little uninspired — fare for today’s RPG-starved gamer. Groom your fellow adventurers well.

The third is at Gaming Nexus with an overall score of 8.6/10:

Complaints aside, Dungeon Siege 2 is a fantastic hack and slash RPG that fans of the genre will love. Gas Powered Games added a ton of new features into the game that should help gamers who didn’t like the first game back into the fold.

The fourth is at Gamerz-Edge with an overall score of 8.8/10:

DS2 is a very successful sequel. Lots of sequels fail to really advance the game or provide few enhancements or only cater to the hardcore fans of the original. DS2 however, not only improves upon an already good game, but makes it increasingly enticing for non-RPG gamers to dive right into the genre. So if you like the first Dungeon Siege, DS2 will certainly offer you plenty of hours of game play. For those gamers who aren’t familiar with the genre, but are interested in getting into it, I suggest they give DS2 a serious look.

And the fifth is at ActionTrip with an overall score of 80/100:

In a nutshell, Dungeon Siege 2 is far from a perfect game. It has some clear and often inexplicable drawbacks, and yet it still manages to deliver a deep and immersive single-player gaming experience that had me glued to my monitor screen ’till the wee hours of the morning. Chris Taylor and the gang managed to do a lot of things right, most of which has to do with the care and attention that was given to exploration and the side-quests, while still botching up some things that I was sure they were going to get right this time around. The game gets a rating of ‘very good’ purely on the basis of the reviewer’s tilt. After all, reviews are a subjective category no matter how you spin it.
