Dungeons & Dragons 30th Anniversary, Day Two

GameSpy continues their Dungeons & Dragons 30th anniversary coverage, with today’s set of features including The History of Dungeons & Dragons Part 2, The History of D&D Videogames Part 2, An Interview With Gary Gygax Part 2, Forgotten Realms: Demon Stone Preview, and an article detailing The Gold Box Series. A snip from the latter:

SSI may have gotten the deal with more thanks to its wargaming experience than any financial incentives it could offer. TSR, as befits a company whose top product sprang from the tabletop wargame world, had many employees who still played them. In fact, many of them were already fans of SSI’s simulations, creating an instant bond that both sides felt boded well for the product. Oddly enough, while it certainly helped to have a structured, rule-based wargaming background in order to effectively translate D&D’s complicated rules to a computer, it was many of the “softer” aspects of Dungeons & Dragons that would make its first product under the license, Pool of Radiance, a smash hit, and later a classic of the genre.
