Dungeons & Dragons Online Reviews

GameShark and Tom’s Hardware have both kicked up new reviews of Turbine’s Dungeons & Dragons Online: Stormreach. GameShark gave the MMORPG an overall score of “B-“:

In my opinion, Dungeons and Dragons Online: Stormreach is a title worthy of the franchise and second only World of Warcraft in quality and fun in and MMORPG. In fact, if it were not for the horrible lag I would have hard pressed to choose between the two. Every fan of D&D or MMORPGs should really give this title a chance. It has a lot going for it with tremendous potential.

While Tom’s Hardware more or less compares the game to World of Warcraft:

So which game is better? That’s not an easy question to answer; as is often the case, it really depends on what you want out of the game. If you played D&D with some buddies 20 years ago and want to enjoy that same kind of experience again despite your friends being scattered to the distant corners of the country, then Dungeons & Dragons Online is the way to go – as long as you can get some of your group to buy it. If you’ve never played any MMORPGs in your life and want to see what all the fuss is about, I would recommend World of Warcraft.

DDO features better graphics and twitch-style interactive combat, while WoW features a strong economy and faster levelling. DDO has voice communication included in the game client, while WoW has enough solo content to keep any hardcore player busy for months. They both have strong points, they both have weak points, and neither is the perfect game. In the end, both games are good at what they do, and both offer an experience you just can’t get with any single-player title.
