Fable Reviews

A handful of new reviews for Lionhead and Big Blue Box’s Fable have hit the web over the past several days. The first is over at ContactMusic.com with an overall score of 9/10:

If you are looking for a classic adventure to brighten up the long winter nights you could do much worse than Fable, my only gripe would be that the main mission is a bit on the short side and the replay-ability factor isn’t quite there. I am not a big fan of fantasy titles and don’t really see myself as a warrior or magician but with Fable being so lovingly constructed I highly recommend that you take the journey, you will not be disappointed.

The second is at Gamers Hell with an overall score of 9.1/10:

It’s been a long time coming and now that it’s here I must say I’m impressed in many ways. Fable is a funny and exciting game, with pretty graphics and extremely well done audio. The only downside is that it only takes between 7 and 10 hours to finish, depending on how many sub quests you do. You can add a couple of hours if you plan on marrying, messing around with villagers, and so on. Playing through the game a second time as the polar opposite of your first character can be fun, just to see how the in-game people react, but personally I didn’t feel too motivated to do it, considering how the story had already unfolded in its entirety. Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic was better in this way, but I’m sure many will want to give both good guy’ and ‘˜bad guy’ a shot.

The third is at Team Fremont with an overall score of 8.9/10:

With a little extra polish, Fable could’ve been one of the greatest action/RPG’s out there, and even with its flaws, the game is still a fantastic trip through a memorable land that reacts to your choices, which few games do. The title is clearly ambitious, and though it doesn’t deliver what was originally promised, it is an engrossing game nonetheless.

And the fourth is at GameDreamz with an overall score of 9.25/10:

The main quest storyline is entertaining, but not as good as KOTOR. What really sells Fable is its ambiance and attention to detail. As stated before, you really feel like you’re a part of the world. The artificially forced text-based storytelling in other open-ended RPG’s is void here. Fable feels like a magical journey from beginning to end. It’s like the people really like/hate you. It feels like you can make a difference in your life. And that’s what makes Fable a great game.
