Fallout 3 Broken Steel DLC Reviews

With Point Lookout hitting sometime after midnight tonight, I thought I’d round up some late Broken Steel reviews before the next flood comes in.

The first is at Game Industry News with a perfect 5/5:

Some people might balk at paying $10 to get content that should have been in the original game, but Fallout 3 gave us a complete story even if the ending was lame. Broken Steel is brand new content, and quite good, that happens to improve not only the ending, but also the overall quality of the original. I can’t think of a better DLC for any game. It’s worth every penny of the $10 it’s priced at. I’d almost say it was essential to the complete Fallout 3 experience, and I will definitely have it installed before I play through the game again with a new character.

And the other is at Barry’s Review Blog with a score of 9.0/10 (thanks, Blue’s News):

Highs: Finally bringing closure to a major flaw that robbed Fallout 3 much of its replay potential, Broken Steel allows you to continue your adventures in the Capital Wasteland beyond the dead-end imposed by the conclusion of Fallout 3’s main quest. Challenging new enemies, new weapons and a suit of power armor; some really cool new perks, the level cap raised from 20 to 30, and three of the most engaging quests ever released for Fallout 3 DLC to date, makes Broken Steel a must have for any Fallout 3 player. Side quests and several after-mission ongoing quests insure that you’ll have more than enough to keep your Lone Wanderer occupied (certainly until the next released DLC add-ons).

Lows: Yet another release-day snafu that required it to be yanked from Microsoft’s LIVE servers for several days, and a mandatory patch whose mantra is “Leave no mod unbroken,” puts modders and gamers alike behind the proverbial 8-ball, and a world-class damper on what is otherwise the best expansion pack released so far for Fallout 3-causing Broken Steel to live up to the more unfortunate aspect of its title.
