Fallout 3 Operation: Anchorage Reviews

A couple of new reviews of Bethesda’s Fallout 3 Operation: Anchorage DLC are now available, though neither is very enthusiastic.

First up is Barry’s Review Blog with a score of 7.0/10:

Highs: The first official DLC for Bethesda Softworks’ award-winning post-nuclear RPG, Fallout 3 Operation: Anchorage places the player in one of the most pivotal battles in the Fallout universe-the Reclamation of Anchorage, Alaska from Communist occupation. Assemble and command your own Strike Team to aid you in three exciting and dangerous quests to liberate Anchorage. Face fierce, new enemies and threats with brand new weapons, armor and perks that become yours when the mission is complete. Provides new resources for community mods with the G.E.C.K. Editor.

Lows: Fallout 3 Operation: Anchorage is a short three hours, max. Limited and often ineffective Strike Team commands. Some strange and distracting visual glitches. Currently joined at the hip to Microsoft’s Games For Windows-LIVE service which, unlike Valve Software’s Steam, requires too many hoops to jump through to switch between offline and online play. Operation: Anchorage can end up costing more than its actual value, thanks to inflexible Microsoft Points pricing. DLC available only for Games For Windows and Xbox LIVE. Playstation 3 owners are presently out-of-luck, even though Fallout 3 is available for the Playstation platform.

So, my final thought on The Fallout 3: Operation Anchorage expansion are that it can be passed. Sure, I had a little bit of fun jumping back into fallout, but when push came to shove it didn’t leave me any more satisfied than any other of the far more superior side quests that were already a part of the Fallout experience.
