Geneforge 4: Rebellion Interview

RPG Vault was able to track down Spiderweb Software’s Jeff Vogel for a three-page interview about their recently released RPG, Geneforge 4: Rebellion.

Q: How does the character development system function as you progress through the game? And can the creations you make improve over time?

A: You will start out with a character type having innate advantages and disadvantages in certain skills. You will earn skill points as the game progresses, and you can then spend them to improve your skills. In addition to melee, magic and Shaping, you can also buy Leadership, which helps you to convince people to help you, and Mechanics, which helps with traps, doors and machinery.

Leadership and Mechanics are actually very powerful. A careful and patient player can finish the whole game with nothing but a ton of these two skills. It’s a hard path (with a lot of stealth) but it’s very possible.

In addition, when you make creations to serve you, you can customize them. They get stronger as the game progresses, so you can keep your old creations and make them more powerful, or you can dismiss them and get new, more powerful models as they become available.
