Guild Wars Nightfall Reviews

A handful of new reviews for ArenaNet’s recently released Guild Wars Nightfall have made their way to the web. The first is at Jolt Online Gaming with an overall score of 8.0/10:

So is the world ready for a third Guild Wars game in 18 months? ArenaNet seems to think so, as do a legion of hardcore fans. As a new game, Nightfall is a perfectly good introduction to the series, and while it may seem a tad pricey for an expansion, the fact that you’re paying a one-off fee to play online as much as you like is no bad thing. Some elements of the game could definitely use a bit more polish, and we’d hope to see some more significant retroactive technical changes for the next inevitable outing, but for now Guild Wars Nightfall represents a perfectly justifiable if not essential purchase.

The second is at AtomicGamer with an overall score of 88%:

Overall, Nightfall is a solid expansion to an already fun base game. The heroes add a whole complete dimension to the story and the new quests/missions are fun and challenging. The Dervish fills a fairly unique role as does the Paragon. The new skills. PvP and Guild Halls are all smaller additions that add to the overall experience. In the end, though, Nightfall is the best chapter so far in the Guild Wars package and I’d highly recommend it to anyone who skipped out on Factions or quit shortly after its release. However, this is another $50 expansion while I understand running the servers isn’t cheap and ArenaNet provides them free of charge, it seems that the expansions are just acting as a way to get the monthly fee while being able to claim free online play. Only time will tell if this business model will continue to work or not.

The third is at DarkZero with an overall score of 8.5/10:

Nightfall is by far the most fun MMORPG I’ve ever come across, and I’d heartily recommend it to newcomers and fans of the series. If you’ve thought about trying an MMORPG before but haven’t felt you’d have the time to get anywhere, give Nightfall a pop. I’ll bet you 6p you won’t regret it.

And the fourth is at Play.tm with an overall score of 92%:

Guild Wars Nightfall could possibly be the series at its best. For newcomers it has everything you could ask from any MMO with many unique features of its own you will not find in others. For veterans of the series, you will gladly find your love for it refreshed and charged, once again to play through this new glorious setting and deeper plotline, incorporating two new character classes and hero customisation to keep you online and campaigning for hours on end. Indeed, apart from there being no monthly subscription fee, what more could you ask for?
