Heroes of Might and Magic V Reviews

A trio of new reviews for Ubisoft and Nival’s Heroes of Might and Magic V have surfaced over the last couple of days. The first is at Game Revolution with an overall score of “B-“:

As the saying goes, (Nobody wants to follow Elvis on stage,) and while their Elvis impersonator is a good one, it will never be as good as the king until it can invent some new tricks of its own. Really, what’s the point of going 3D if it has no gameplay ramifications? For example, how about implementing terrain bonuses so that if you attack from higher ground, you get a buff? 3D strategy games have been doing that for ages.

On the other hand, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and New World Computing should be very flattered indeed. Despite how derivative it is, Heroes of Might and Magic V is still a good, addictive game. It just isn’t a very new one.

The second is at Gamebiz Australia with an overall score of 8/10:

Heroes V brings all Heroes fans back to their origins as the game builds on all of the series’ past experiences to make a truly epic game. Days of campaigning is involved in beating Heroes V, and RTS fans will most definitely feel that their money has been well invested. The graphics and sound are all up to par with current RTS games, and Heroes V produces some really wonderful innovative ideas both on the combat field and off. We recommend Heroes V if you’re looking for a lengthy game that will keep you involved through the early hours of the morning, but if you’re looking for a more action packed RTS game, perhaps check out Battle for Middle Earth II.

And the third is at GameZone with an overall score of 8.0/10:

A great turn-based strategy series has gained a worthy addition. HOMM V is everything a strategy fan would want, and remains faithful to what made it great in the first place. While some things could have been better, like bigger maps, more uniform opponent AI and a sandbox mode, what is present is more than enough to warrant getting the game.
