How to Level Up Your Skill in Kingdom Come: Deliverance

KC:D is jam-packed with ways to develop your character. Figuring out how you are going to have time to level up all 17 of Henry’s skills can seem like a daunting task. Luckily, there are two methods to skip the grinding and gain some quick XP – Skill Books and Skill Trainers. While both of these methods can be tricky to find and can find you emptying your pockets of your hard-earned groschen, it is more than worth it because of how long it can take to develop skills organically.

Below are some tips on how to use and find all of the Skill Books and Trainers available in the game.

Skill Books in Kingdom Come

KC:D offers a host of collectible items throughout the game. Perhaps the most valuable of which for players are Skill Books. Skill books are available for most Skills and Stats in the game – from Drinking to Vitality. They provide a static XP boost to the Stat associated with each book.

If you are looking for information about where to find books to boost your Stats check out our Stats Guide.

How to Use Skill Books

Each series of Skill Books in Kingdom Come has a name – EX: The Alchemist’s Dream for Alchemy. There are four books in each series as noted by the roman numeral after the book’s name. The later books in the series require higher proficiency in the stat before you can read them.

Book Order # Associated Skill Level Required
I 0
II 5
III 10
IV 15

Reading books takes time. Meaning the higher your Reading Skill the quicker you will be able to digest the info in the Skill Book. You gain the XP from reading the book when you reach 100% reading completion. It is important to note that you have to be able to read to use the books. Meaning that you will have to visit the Scribe in Uzhitz in order to learn. The quest to do so can be started by talking to the Apothecary in Rattay.

Where to Find Skill Books

Skill books are located all across Bohemia. Skill books can be obtained in one of five ways:

  1. By Stealing them (Lockpicking and Pickpocketing)
  2. By purchasing them
  3. By using Treasure Maps to find them
  4. By completing quest
  5. By having them gifted to you by NPC’s

Finding all 38 Skill Books (and the additional Stat Books) will require significant time, energy, money, and lock picks.

So how much do Skill Books cost in Kingdom Come? It depends on the book’s level. The first book in a series requires 50, the second costs 150 groschen, the third book in a series goes for 450 groschen, and the final books require 1350 groschen.

Skill Trainers in KC:D

Skill Trainers are NPC’s who are experienced enough in a particular Skill to be able to impart some of their knowledge onto Henry. They provide an easier path to Skill XP gain than Skill Books do because they require significantly less time to search for and require no reading time.

How to Train with a Skill Trainer

Training with skill trainers is fairly simple at face value. After all, all you have to do is talk to them to get your XP. However, skill Trainers do not come free or without requirements. There are four progressively more advanced levels of training. Training beyond basic will not be available to you right away. See the table below to understand the skill required, cost for, and XP gained from each tier of training.

Training Tier Required Skill Level Cost to Train XP Gained from Training
Basic 0 60 50

I have been playing video games for basically my entire life. One of my earliest memories is asking my mom to grind my Pokemon in Pokemon Yellow so I could skip straight to the gym leaders. Those early experiences led to a lifelong hobby and love of gaming. Strategy, 4X, and RPGs have been favorite genres for years. However, you can occasionally find me playing League, FIFA, or NCAA Football 14. When I am not in front of my laptop, you can find me hiking, playing with my dog, or reading.
