IGN’s Best of 2005: Fable: The Lost Chapters

Although the Xbox version of Fable and Fable: The Lost Chapters didn’t receive any mentions, IGN has awarded the RPG with Best Original Score in the PC category of their “Best of 2005” awards. I’d say this award was rightly deserved:

While Fable might have been a little heavy on the light bloom, it went Goldilocks on the music — they got it just right. Sweeping drama, foreboding strings, bouncing lightness — it’s all there, shifting and moving dynamically according to what’s happening onscreen. Then again, you’re working with Danny Elfman and the Philharmonia Orchestra of London, so they would have to go out of their way to stink things up. The soundtrack, which is available separately, doesn’t have the sheer staggering weight of GTA San Andreas, but it’s not size that counts, right? Throw Russel Shaw in the mix, who’s worked with Philip Glass, the Boston Pops and the Glenn Miller Orchestra, and you end up with a polished pedigree that gamers aren’t used to being indulged with. Heck, even the conductor has a resume including the soundtracks for The Shipping News and Chicago, not to mention a cast recording of The Pirates of Penzance. It’s hard to turn down such an embarrassment of riches.
